So I have just started Uni studying engineering after NS, and I can’t keep up with the work load, new topic every week before I can understand the fundamentals. I have already failed 2 of my CAs and I kept thinking about what will happen if I fail. I keep having self doubt and negative thoughts and I’m afraid this will also affect my love ones, and if I were to take a break I will think I am lacking way behind others. How am I suppose to cope with this
That transition from NS to uni is genuinely tough, and what you’re feeling makes sense. It doesn’t mean you’re not cut out for this.
On the academic side, go to your lecturers during consultation hours when something isn’t clicking. Asking about fundamentals is never a silly question.
On taking a break, if the stress is affecting your thinking and your relationships, pushing through on willpower alone often makes things worse.. I do want to let you know that taking a step back isn’t falling behind at all, and many people actually absorb things better after giving themselves space to breathe.
What you’re describing sounds like it’s weighing on you quite heavily beyond just academics. When you mention negative thoughts, can I ask what kind of thoughts you’re having? I want to make sure you’re okay.
Either way, your school’s counselling centre is a good place to bring all of this, both the emotional weight and the practical academic options. It’s worth reaching out to them.
