OCD symptoms but not all of them

Asking out of curiousity rather than worry. As a child I had a few odd issues that I have managed to force out of myself, but they all point to OCD, however i’ve never really noticed any other symptoms.

  1. Ages 6-7, I had real unavoidable intrusive thoughts that refused to leave my head, always taking place when i was in the company of any man i was not directly related to. These thoughts often were about r@pe or sex but these came up in my mind completely unwillingly.

  2. in primary school, i had A sudden habit of scratching my scalp till I found blood under my nails, as well as plucking my hair, both to the point of bald spots and blood clots. It came in times of stress but had to do with the obsession of removing the “balls” stuck in my scalp to smooth it out or removing “stress hairs”

  3. when i was 12-14 i had An odd obsession with symmetry, and sometimes if i didn’t obey it i’d physically shiver. If i was on a chair in a room facing forward i would feel insane discomfort with odd things like how there’s a hallway on my right but a wall on my left, meaning there’s more close contact to something on one side so it’s uneven. When I climbed a staircase i’d have to redo it because one touched more, and then again because one foot went first and the other went second so i had to reverse it to even it out, that one foot’s heel touched the floor with more force than the other, etc. I noticed everything like a physical feeling and compulsively adjusted to it.

However i’ve never been able to find any other memories of OCD compulsions. I also think these 3 habits are too arbitrary to compile into a specific type of OCD. However I have heard that OCD can be genetic and my father behaves like the textbook definition of a person with OCD

Hi connectedmonstera2542,

Your curiosity about this makes a lot of sense and the patterns you’ve described are genuinely worth reflecting on.

Just to caveat, I am not a doctor thus I am not able to diagnose you over this platform. However, what you’ve described does align quite closely with OCD presentations and they’re not as arbitrary as you might think. From what you’ve shared, the fact that these appeared at different ages and then seemed to resolve or fade is also consistent with how OCD can present across childhood.

Since you’re asking out of curiosity rather than worry, I won’t push you toward anything. But I do suggest you see doctor at a GP/Polyclinic for an opinion first or a referral to see a specialist for what you’re experiencing.
