Anxiety over what jobs/careers are left in singapore if companies outsources/relocates to cheaper countries or hires imported foreigners

Bruh, how am i supposed to chill about my present and future when this is happening. I’ve already took a software developer bootcamp to ease my panic to make myself more tech savy and not to have ai worries. This outsourcing and importing thing is next level of worry. Do you guys even feel like singapore is looking after singaporeans anymore?
So back to the question, what jobs/careers are left in singapore if companies outsources/relocates to cheaper countries or hires imported foreigners?

Hi @user1138,

Thank you for raising your concerns. It is understandable that the evolving global economy and advancements in technology can create uncertainty about job opportunities. The Government remains committed to ensuring that Singaporeans have access to good jobs and meaningful careers, even as industries transform and businesses adapt to new challenges.

Singapore’s economic strategy focuses on creating high-value jobs for Singaporeans while maintaining our competitiveness in a rapidly changing world. Through initiatives such as SkillsFuture, Workforce Singapore (WSG) programs, and industry transformation roadmaps, we are equipping Singaporeans with the skills needed to thrive in emerging sectors like technology, advanced manufacturing, and green energy (Budget 2025 Helping Singaporeans Build Career Resilience).

At the same time, Singapore faces unique demographic challenges, including a low birth rate and an ageing population. To sustain economic growth and ensure businesses can continue to operate effectively, we need to complement our local workforce with foreign talent. This approach allows companies to remain competitive while creating opportunities for Singaporeans to take on leadership roles and higher-value jobs (GE2025: PAP, WP and PSP agree that Singapore needs foreign talent. But they differ on the balance | The Straits Times).

The Government has also tightened foreign workforce policies to ensure that Singaporeans remain at the heart of our workforce. For example, the Employment Pass (EP) and S Pass qualifying salaries have been raised to ensure that foreign professionals hired are of high quality and complement local talent (https://www.mom.gov.sg/-/media/mom/documents/budget2025/cos-2025-factsheet-on-foreign-workforce-policies.pdf?citationMarker=43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054).

Additionally, the Complementarity Assessment Framework (COMPASS) ensures that companies hire foreign professionals only when necessary, while prioritizing local employment (GE2025: PAP, WP and PSP agree that Singapore needs foreign talent. But they differ on the balance | The Straits Times).

Outsourcing and relocation are concerns that remain on the minds of citizens, but Singapore remains a hub for industries that require high-skilled talent, such as finance, technology, biomedical sciences, and engineering. The Government continues to invest in these sectors to create sustainable, well-paying jobs for Singaporeans.

Hence, it is encouraged all Singaporeans to embrace lifelong learning and adaptability, as these qualities will be key to staying competitive in the workforce (Budget 2025 Helping Singaporeans Build Career Resilience).

If you are looking for career guidance or upskilling opportunities, platforms like MyCareersFuture and WSG’s Careers Connect can provide support tailored to your needs (Visit WSG Career Centres - Career Counselling, Guidance & Planning).

Singapore’s success has always been built on resilience and adaptability. While challenges exist, we are confident that by working together, we can continue to build a strong and inclusive economy that benefits all Singaporeans.

Thank you for raising your concerns, and I hope this provides clarity on the Government’s efforts to secure a bright future for Singaporeans.
