Failed Online Biz Caused My house to be cluttered with goods.

2 yrs ago i started online biz to help with my cost of keeping a emotional support dog and all is well and I can get like 10 orders a week until recently it become too competitive and I can have times when there is totally no orders for a week.

And now I so stress with my house being cluttered with stuffs.

Sadly , I never seems to figure out how drop shipping works.

I really hope someone can help me.

Dear @user1446

Thank you for sharing this—it sounds like you’ve put a lot of heart into your online business, especially with the meaningful motivation of supporting your emotional support dog. It’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed right now, especially with both financial pressures and physical clutter weighing on you.

Let’s break it down step by step to help you find a path forward.

1. Understanding Why Orders Dropped

  • Increased competition: You’re right—many online markets (especially small items, crafts, or pet-related goods) get crowded fast.
  • Platform algorithms: Sites may reduce visibility over time unless you keep refreshing your listings, ads, or reviews.
  • Seasonal or trend changes: Some niches just lose demand unless they evolve with what people want now.

2. Dealing with the Clutter

Before we tackle dropshipping, here are some low-pressure ideas to help declutter and maybe earn a bit:

  • Bundle clearance sales: Offer surprise bundles or “last chance” deals at a discount.
  • Carousell/Facebook Marketplace: Sell off slow-moving stock locally for quick pickups.
  • Declutter in batches: Start with 1 box or shelf a day. Let go of items you haven’t sold in 6 months.

3. If You Want to Restart with Dropshipping

Dropshipping can sound complicated, but the basic idea is:

  • You don’t keep any stock.
  • When a customer orders from you, you place that order with a supplier who ships it directly to them.

Beginner-friendly steps:

  1. Choose a platform
  2. Pick a niche

4. Low-Stress Way to Learn

If dropshipping still feels overwhelming, consider:

  • Watching free YouTube tutorials (e.g., “Dropshipping for Beginners 2025”).
  • Booking a free mentoring session with someone from SCORE or Shopify Learn

5. Emotional Support & Self-Care

Don’t underestimate how hard it is to run a business alone, especially when you’re managing emotional and physical stress. It’s okay to pause, ask for help, and pivot to something that brings more peace.

You don’t have to figure this out alone. Let’s take one small step at a time. :yellow_heart:

HELP…

Honestly…i dont see the point of letting things go in a lost.

Hello @user1446

Curious to know what your online business is about/ selling. But yeah, lately because of what is happening around the world, it can be tough running a business, really need to do extensive marketing etc

Dear @user1446

I’m so sorry to hear how frustrated you sound with the online business not doing as well as you had hoped :frowning:

It definitely does sound like a waste if you were to sell your stock at a loss — but do you think that selling some stock first just to get some capital and try a new online business is something you’re keen on trying?

Regardless, don’t give up hope!! Entrepreneurship is a journey  Wishing you all the best!

Ive played around w selling stuff with low or no upfront costs. Failed most of them. Ive concluded that working a 9 to 6.30pm job will pay more than any online biz. Online biz eats up all my time w little results too. Theres SCTP or IMDA-CLT if u want to transition into a better paying job

Well…i start home online biz because I am good at sourcing for stuff. And I like to buy. Plus I am looking for something that is homebased that can provide a side income from my interest.

But sadly it fail pretty badly.

Well…its tough running small biz without support for sure.

Since online biz itself is a unfair playground, Since most of the major online shopping platform now allowed overseas sellers to sale in the platform. And they are dont feel a pitch even if its they sale something for just 10cents and inciudes overseas shipping.

That is pretty much doe to the seller income deduction is different. And some of the oversea sellers is backed by the platform.

While local sellers like me, we pay for GST to the platform and also during imports so that is 18% GST in total. And on top of that there is a $3 delivery fees, And about 8% commission and 4% service fees. So…if i sale for $10, at max i get is $5 back.

Eitherway…i am selling yarn. And currently i have over 6000 yarns stuck at home.

It really start of well…and i am even able to sale them on FB group until people in the group deemed homebased sellers as scalpers and stop buying.

But i am also a crocheter myself, but not into complex stuff. Just some basic crocheting.

I have also trying renting a small box in shops to sale small charms and blind boxes, goes quite well for the first 3 months and later start to incurred lost and i close it 6 months later.

Hmmm does a procurement job interest u?

it does, but i dont have the academic qualification for such job.

Hey @user1446

I’m sorry to hear that your business venture failed, it can be quite disheartening and distressing especially when you start taking a loss/ financial distress.

I don’t really have any solutions for you but know that my heart goes out to you. I have previously ventured into a small business myself and it took a toll on my mental health when it failed. It’s hard when you don’t know what to do with the excess inventory. I really feel for you…

Maybe you can look into what @HanSolo2000 has suggested. I hope you will be able to find something that is suitable for you. As for the excess inventory, just hoping the best for you, manage can try platforms like carousell…
