Designers, do yall regret choosing ur design degree in the past when it is one of the least paid jobs w degree?

Looking at how other fresh grads from other industries earn so much while im not earning as much as them even w some years of experience as a designer

It’s understandable to feel discouraged when you compare your earnings to those of your peers in other industries. Everyone’s career path is unique, and it’s important to remember that your value and potential are not solely measured by your salary.

Perhaps you could explore opportunities to increase your earnings within your current role, such as negotiating a raise or taking on additional responsibilities. There are also certifications or advanced degrees to enhance your skills and marketability.

It’s important to focus on your own journey and progress rather than comparing yourself to others. Remember, your career is a marathon, not a sprint. With patience and perseverance, you can achieve your financial goals.

Hey @user1138 It’s tough to see others, especially fresh grads from other fields, making more while you’re putting in years of effort and experience. And very honestly, it is what I’m currently facing as well although we are in the different field. It’s natural to feel frustrated, and it’s totally okay to want recognition, including fair pay, for all that hard work and creativity you bring to your designs.

You’ve built experience and a unique skill set that many others don’t have, and that’s a foundation you can keep building on. You might even explore ways to position your work that leverage the skills you’ve developed over the years. Sometimes, side projects, freelance work, or even presenting your skills in a new light can open up opportunities to showcase your worth and grow income potential. I, for one, have tried to acknowledge that if my field doesn’t pay well, I need to find other ways to earn while still doing what I like (well that’s the ideal, not like I have found that yet haha).

I know it’s not easy to see the difference in pay right now, but your experience and the creativity you bring to the table have value that goes beyond what can be seen right away. Keep holding on to that, and don’t let the comparison take away from what you’ve already accomplished. You’re building something meaningful, even if it takes time to see that reflected fully in your paycheck. Wishing you all the best!
