Wanted to ask yall a question.. For uni grads out there, governement or private grads, what would be the lowest salary that yall can accept in the market for HR jobs for someone with only internship experience and a 2 year gap year after graduation? Would yall be okay to take up assistant roles as well?
Assuming company do not have any other benefits except statutory ones.
Navigating the job market as a fresh graduate, especially with a gap year, can feel daunting. From the perspective of a fellow fresh grad, I’d say that salary expectations can vary widely depending on the industry, company, and role. Based on current listings, HR assistant roles in Singapore seem to range from SGD 2,000 to SGD 3,500 per month, based on what I see on Jobstreet, Indeed, JobsDB and MyCareersFuture.
Taking up an assistant role could be a strategic move to gain hands-on experience and build a strong foundation in HR. While the lack of additional benefits might be a downside, it could still be worth considering if the role offers valuable learning opportunities and career progression.
That said, organizations like Workforce Singapore (WSG) or NTUC e2i would be in a better position to provide tailored advice on salary expectations and career pathways. They have online resources, job fairs, and career coaches that could help you make an informed decision.
Hope this information will help you to chart your career path!

Hello!
I relate a lot to this concern and thoughts, I am a recent grad too. I rely a lot on glassdoors to see the average pay for the job/field I am looking at. I also just have a look at the job portals that display a pay range, like mycareerfuture!
But with what kind of roles I’ll be okay to take up, I think that’s something each person might answer differently. I’ll encourage you to think about what financial you’re comfortable with and based on your experience, and what you’re getting out of the role that is not related to finances! Things like learning opportunities, benefits, and purpose for this role (is it for your next career step?)
Not very sure about the market rates nowadays, might be worth checking out Glassdoor or salary forums to get an idea.
HR also has a wide spectrum of roles so it depends on your interest and skills. Compensation and benefit / total reward roles typically pay better imo.
