I don’t feel as motivated as I am currently going through a lot and I’m stressed about studies.
Hi! I understand that studies can get stressful at times, being a student myself, I found that going on short breaks such as walking rounds in the park nearest to my house very useful in allowing me to collect my thoughts and just chatting with friends and family. Celebrating a small improvement can bring me joy as well! Hope these are useful. All the best OP
hi @user9891 ,
I can assure you that what you are feeling is perfectly normal.
I would encourage you to focus your energy on starting your study session. Chances are, if you managed to push past the first couple of minutes, you’ll fly through the rest of the study session before you know it!
Remember to take small breaks between your study sessions, and give yourself a reward after you are done for the day
All the best!
Hi @user9891
Thanks so much for sharing!! Seems like there is a lot going on in your life right now and I am so sorry to hear that it has been affecting you and your studies.
Do you currently have any support system (like close friends, family perhaps even religion?) to turn to and tell them about you feel? Social and family support can be very helpful and important and my personal suggestion would be to go to them to turn to for help if possible!
However, if you are unable to, that’s totally okay too! Thanks for coming onto Let’s Talk to share with us about how you have been feeling. Studies can definitely be so so stressful and I totally get how you feel. However, I just want to reassure you that you are already doing so so well! Whatever pace you are at, wherever you are in terms of your studies, no matter how well your doing (or not!) in school, you are exactly where you are meant to be and you are doing well
! Even the smallest progress is progress and by even reaching out and admitting you have these feelings is progress in and of itself
! Remind yourself that small wins are just as important as the big ones, even just getting out of bed, stopping the doom scroll, reading one word of the whole chapter of your notes are small wins. You are doing well, continue to keep it up
!
Hi @user9891,
I’m sorry you’re feeling weighed down like this. When life piles up and stress from studies creeps in, it can feel like there’s barely space to breathe, let alone create or focus.
Please be gentle with yourself; struggling right now doesn’t mean you’ve failed or that you’re weak. It means you’re human and carrying more than your share. Even small steps, like just showing up or allowing yourself to rest without guilt, are acts of strength.
This rough patch doesn’t define you, and it absolutely won’t last forever. You’ve made it this far for a reason, and there’s still so much more ahead that’s worth discovering, even if you can’t see it just yet.
Wishing you all the best for your studies!
hey @user9891, it sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate, and i’m rlly sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way :((. ik you didn’t ask for it, but here are some things that help me whenever i’m feeling unmotivated – feel free to see whether any might work for you too!
- plan out what you want to do at least a day in advance. personally, i use notion to map out what i want to complete over the next ~4 days. doing this rlly helps me bc it gives me a sense of control (often, my lack of motivation is bc i feel so overwhelmed that i cannot do anything at all). also, it means that i won’t need to spend any mental energy thinking about what i should do for that day – i can just get straight to doing it. ofc, this schedule isn’t inflexible. if i feel like doing sth else for that day or i cannot finish everything i had originally planned to, i’ll just adapt the schedule accordingly! think of it more like a guideline, not a rule
- set the mood. whether this means preparing your favourite drink or snack, lighting a candle, decluttering your table (!!), setting up a nice playlist or putting away your devices, having a conducive environment can have a huge impact on your studying experience and general mood! having these little rituals can also signal to your brain that it’s time to focus, and the act of preparing can give you a sense of control or comfort :”)
- study with sb else. this could be your friend, sibling, partner, etc., and could be in person or virtually. I personally find that having sb work alongside me helps me stay on task, and the convos between study sessions def help me feel connected and less isolated!
- flip the narrative. instead of thinking “i have to study”, try thinking, “i’m choosing to study to improve my knowledge” or “studying is a way for me to take control of my goals.” sometimes just reframing the way you think about a situation can completely change the game heheh.
- try not to set unrealistically high expectations, and give yourself some grace. ik friends who can study in the library from 10am - 7pm, but i personally just can’t do that. when i try, i usually just end up feeling more unmotivated and upset with myself for being so unproductive. everyone works differently, so try not to compare yourself to others! and also allow yourself to have a imperfect study session – it’s a process, and every day is a brand new chance to gain more knowledge :”)
please be gentle with yourself during this time. take things one step at a time, and rmb that it’s okay to ask for help or take breaks when you need them. your well-being is important, and it’s okay to prioritise that. wishing you all the best okie, i’m rooting for you
