I’m new here

Hey all, I just found this site by chance. I’ve just turned 30 and have been experiencing anxiety over the past few months. I have gone thru a few panic attacks. I feel like connecting with some of you guys here might be a good step in overcoming my anxiety. Tell me a little bit about yourselves. I’m Navin, nice to meet you all.

I fell paranoid over physical symptoms and am slowly learning to embrace them in my recovery, though I’m still far from ideal on that.

Hey @user0388 , welcome to this space!! This can be a great place for connection and understanding yourself better (us understanding ourselves, too) Could you share with us what had triggered some of these panic attacks and how you have learnt to cope with them? That’d be so helpful to the community here!

Appreciate the welcome. The attacks began after I got strange tingling sensations in my left arm and shoulder. I’d been told that it meant potential heart issues. That panic grew and grew until I got a panic attack in a bus on the way home. It was terrifying, because I thought I was getting a heart attack. The effects lasted for about an hour. It felt like I was drowning, with the heart palpitations being one of the most frightening symptoms

Ever since, I’d been getting a couple of panic attacks every month and my anxiety remained. Now slowly on the process of recovery. As for coping, I’m still figuring it out. I tend to run to my room and turn on my air-con if my anxiety flares up at home. Other than that, I’m on anxiety meds (fluoxetine) so I’m slowly on the way to accepting my current symptoms, and eventually overcoming them, even if it is going to be a slower and longer ride.

Hi @user0388,

That sounds incredibly intense, and I really appreciate you sharing it so openly.

It takes a lot of courage to face something so frightening and still keep moving forward. It’s great that you’ve taken steps like starting fluoxetine and finding small ways to soothe yourself, like retreating to your room with the air-con when things get overwhelming. Recovery can be slow and messy, but you’re clearly doing the work, and that matters.

Just checking - are you based in Singapore? I’d love to point you toward some local mental well-being resources that might support you on this journey.
