Persistent chest pain and tightness

Why do I still have chest pains and tightness after consuming medicinal drugs that is supposed to alleviate these symptoms. I have panic disorders and coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis).I take Clonazepam and Propanol but it doesn’t go away. When admitted to the A&E of a public holiday, they cannot detect any major problems

Hi user1486

Thank you for sharing your experiences.
Your feelings of worry and frustration about your health is fully understandable and valid. The chest pains and tightness are continuing despite taking Clonazepam and Propanolol for panic disorders and coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis).

As I am not medically trained, for the persistent chest pains, it would be best to go back to your doctor and let him know. There could be insufficient medication dosage or perhaps a change of medication may be required to better manage underlying conditions.

Anxiety and panic attacks can manifest physically, including chest tightness and pain. I recommend speaking to a Counsellor who can help you to gain a deeper understanding of underlying psychological distress. The Counsellor can help you identify triggers for the panic attack and guide you on how to ride through the panic attacks. Panic attacks are not dangerous and they will pass. Techniques such as grounding and progressive muscle relaxation are possible useful techniques to use when you feel the first physical signs of discomfort.

I encourage you to self care regularly, manage stress, make lifestyle improvements and participate in enjoyable activities. Engage your medical professional too for a holistic approach. Please take good care of yourself♥️.

have you tried deep breathing where your tummy (not just your chest) inflates and deflates? 5-8 deep breaths are enough to activate the vagal nerves that’s deep in the belly area and calms down the nervous system… it works for me (esp before presentation) and i hope it works for you too, user1486!

I have done so but when the panic attacks come on fast and furious, it is not efficacious.

Moreover, I am now in a bad place …in terms of excessive worrying over what awaits me if I don’t secure approval for a non sharing HDB rental.

Things seem to be spiralling out of control

Hi user1486

I am sorry to hear that you are currently in a bad place. Yes, what you are experiencing with regards to the outcome of the rental application is understandable. I gather you have done what is in your control to support the application. Well done on that effort.

I encourage you to practise the grounding techniques to build up the familiarity of using it. Then when the initial feeling of panic arises, use it to ride through the episode. I personally use this.

Thank you and please continue to self care.
