im graduating from uni in 2026 (yay!) but im feeling very anxious about it. im doing my internship now and im doing something i always wanted to do since i started uni (yay!). but the department is freezing headcount so im unable to convert full time. and although it’s my dream job, im unable to see myself doing something similar full time in another company (idk why but it’s so ironic…). and thats add to my stress and anxieties because i dont know what job i want and the job market is quite bad right now (for my industry)…… and sometimes when things get p bad, i start regretting my degree choice.
I hear you, and it sounds like you’re carrying a lot right now. The excitement of doing work you’ve always wanted, mixed with the disappointment of not being able to convert to full-time, plus the pressure of figuring out what comes next when nothing else feels quite right. That’s a really tough position to be in, especially when you’re so close to graduation. And you’re absolutely right that job hunting can be incredibly lonely, particularly when you’re navigating uncertainty about your path forward while watching the headcount freeze happen in real time.
May I encourage you to try a few practical ways to cope during this time?
You might want to try to maintain a routine that includes regular breaks and activities outside of job searching. Burnout is real, and taking care of your mental health is essential.
Connect with peers who are in similar situations - sharing experiences can help you feel less isolated.
Consider reaching out to career coaches (via WSG or NTUC e2i) for guidance and perspective.
It’s also worth acknowledging that the current job market is uncertain, shaped by volatile economies and the rise of AI, which is reshaping many industries and adding another layer of complexity to job searches for recent graduates.
Setting achievable goals can help make the process feel more manageable. Something like updating one resume a day or reaching out to one new contact per week gives you a sense of progress without overwhelming you.
