Been really anxious lately for some reason

It might seem like I’m overreacting but a lot of things happened today that made me anxious for some reason. I’ll just list a few:

Stepping on a discarded fruit by accident

While walking a guy tripped over my foot and made me lose a slipper

Hearing a guy cursing in public

That’s all I can list know based on memory (since I usually forget things like this but these ones left an impression). My face felt pale, and my head began to ache because of these unusual events.

I might just be overreacting, but it still has some impact on me, almost as if I’m sensitive to my surroundings.

How to not be too anxious in situations like this?

Thank you for writing in and sharing what you have experienced. I’m glad you are seeking help to cope better. Please know that feeling some anxiety is common.

From what you have described, I believe that speaking to a counsellor soon may be helpful in addressing the specific thoughts and thinking patterns contributing to the anxiety when the events you described took place. The counsellor will listen non judgmentally and help you unpack unhelpful thinking patterns that may be contributing to the distress felt.

Spending time daily in practising mindfulness may also be useful. Mindfulness helps us remain in the present moment and builds greater awareness of our thoughts and feelings. It helps us choose our responses instead of reacting to them.
