Hi. My name is Ernest and I am a minor (not revealing age). I am struggling to stay confident in myself and sometimes and a few suicidal thoughts. I believe that this is due to my parents lack of care and concern and now believe that this is depression. However, I would still want to know if J am suffering of depression. Pls get back soon
Dear @user6239
I’m glad you wrote in, Ernest. Please know you are not alone at all; there many people who want to help you. By writing in to us you show your determination to feel better and improve your mental health. That’s a good first step, so well done.
It would be best for you to speak to your school counsellor soonest to address suicidal thoughts, feeling low and having low self confidence. The counsellors are trained to listen non judgmentally and will provide a safe space for you to open up and speak freely on what has been going on. The counsellor can also work with you to build your confidence through you taking small actions towards this goal.
There are also hotlines you can call if you feel overwhelmingly low or suicidal. Theses two lines are operated by trained professionals and available 24/7. Please keep these numbers handy: Samaritans of Singapore at 1767 or the National Mindline at 1771.
Your life is deeply precious and you have much to contribute in the future. Let us know how you are doing. You matter!![]()
Dear @user6239
Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing what you’re going through Ernest. It sounds like you’ve been feeling very hurt and overwhelmed lately, and I want you to know that your feelings are completely valid. It takes a lot of courage to talk about things like this, especially when you’re struggling with confidence and having thoughts of hurting yourself.
You’re not alone in this, and there are people who truly care and want to support you. Like @CaringBee has mentioned, talking to a trusted adult like a school counsellor can be a really helpful first step. They can listen, support you, and guide you towards the help you deserve. You could also speak with a mental health professional, such as a therapist, who can assess how you’re feeling and work with you to figure out the best ways to help you feel better.
You matter, and help is available.
Hi there Ernest, thank you for sharing your thoughts, that is very brave of you
Like the others have mentioned, you should visit your school counsellor and have a chat with them about how you have been feeling. They will likely guide you to other resources where you can get better support from! In the meantime, you can contact the hotlines provided. If you want text alternatives for better convenience, try www.chat.mentalhealth.sg or eC2 for a mental health screening. Please take care of yourself, remember that you are never alone. Feel free to post here should you need a listening ear! ![]()
Hi Ernest, I believe that the fact that you’re asking these questions are a very good sign already!
I was a 143kg discord-mod, with no purpose in life, and rotting away in my room back in 2021, and currently studying psych and currently living q a meaningful life.
I feel that noticing your negative thoughts and observe them is a great way to find out the source of these feelings.
Keep jotting down and sharing your observations with people that you can connect with. Keep your mind open to notice people that you can share your struggles and mind (people that can help, or care a lot about you, or a mental health professional [because they are trained to be able to help you develop better mental tools to help yourself’])
For now, some immediate things you can try, on top of noting down your emotional state/thoughts, is can try changing up a bit of your life’s tempo, what I did was to join a gym, but you can try anything that is within your budget, easily accessible, and have other people around. When I start to go consistently and see how it made me feel after, I just automatically do it more, and have flowing conversations with people with that same interest. (and these people are usually have that positive energy, which is important that you feed your mental diet with positive energy)
OK, I hope as you read this rather messy thought, I just think that you’re on a great path, you just need to focus on the next step. “What can you do right this moment to make a small, yet significant, improvement to your life?”
Call it gut instinct, but I know you’ll come out of this stronger, happier and going to help a lot of other people that are currently facing similar struggles. :)![]()
