hi i’m lwk suffering from dermatillomania and i keep peeling my nails (fingers and toes) and i really wanna stop but i peel them all the time even without noticing :disappointed_face: was wondering how i can get rid of this

Seeing a counsellor or psychologist will help with habits like hair pulling and nail peeling biting because they can teach you strategies such as cognitive behavioural therapy that have proven to work well to reverse these behaviours.

If you are in school currently, I recommend you set up a consult with your school counsellor. To prepare before the consult session would be helpful, so please start a record of incidents. The record should note date/time of incidents just before you pulled hair or peeled nails. Also record what were some thoughts and feelings you were having just before you turned to hair pulling and nail peeling. When were episodes more intense?

Alternatively, you could also consult a polyclinic medical doctor, explain your situation and ask for referral to a psychologist or counsellor with specialist training in this area.

Although it feels overwhelming at the moment, please know that with consistent effort you can overcome these habits and reduce your distress. You reaching out here is a first step in this recovery journey. :yellow_heart:
