Hi, anyone with gov job that requires security clearance? I unds that suicide has been decriminalised n i luckily attempted after it was decriminalised but what about the history of mental illnesses part? Just say have?
From what I understand, it isn’t necessary to declare mental illness for your job.
That said, I’m answering this with a very general lens. I’m not sure if things change if it is a government job, plus with an added security clearance.
There is this article which is an official advisory from MOM. Perhaps this might be a helpful resource for you?
Mmm I personally would share my struggles with my employer, though it is so so difficult to do so.. (but I don’t have a diagnosed condition uh) bcos I feel it would be harder to hide that every day at work especially when it may get stressful and I may need support. And I feel like if some employers would reject me bcos of that, I would prefer so cos I wouldn’t want to work with a boss who isn’t understanding… but I also can imagine practical concerns if I really need a job and I can’t really choose my circumstance and when I really need a job, I’m also not sure what I’ll do then.. I don’t think I’m very helpful here but just thought to share my perspective ![]()
Do u mean discriminate?
Do you think the job requirement needs this information?
Else, I would not declare.
You can read more from the link which will provide more insight and also probably if you need time off for treatment during your employment and you think the employer is open to your condition.
Else, I think it’s really a personal choice.
IMH has a podcast on this topic about declaration that you may wanna check out too.
