How do u guys make urself feel better about your youth lost to ur mental illnesses?

Like i could have done this n that

It’s painful to think about lost time, but I’ve found that focusing on what I can still create for myself helps. Every day I work on things that bring me a sense of growth or peace (It can vary from relationships, to hobbies, to my work). Healing takes time, but it’s never too late to live a life that feels meaningful.

Hey @user1138 Losing parts of your youth to mental illness is a tough reality to accept. It’s natural to think about the “what ifs” and feel that sense of loss. But I feel maybe one way to find some peace is to recognize the resilience it took just to keep going during those hard times. I would see it as although you may have missed out on certain experiences, but you developed strength, insight, and self-awareness that others may not have. As hard as it feels, try to remember that the future still holds possibilities for you to explore and rediscover joy in your own way, even if it looks different from what you once imagined. :blue_heart:

Hi @user1138, thanks for reaching out.

Based on my own lived experiences, I have gained a couple of insights on managing my mental health + regulating difficult emotions during overwhelming situations.

Here are some things that I found to be helpful (and perhaps something that might help you too)!

Here are some strategies that people have found helpful in coping with these emotions:

  • Seeking professional help: Therapists and counsellors can provide support and guidance in working through these feelings.
  • Joining support groups: Connecting with others who have similar experiences can be incredibly helpful and validating.
  • Practicing self-compassion: Being kind to oneself and understanding that mental illness is not a personal failure can be empowering.
  • Focusing on the present: Rather than dwelling on the past, focusing on the present moment and setting achievable goals can help build a sense of purpose.
  • Finding meaning and purpose: Engaging in activities that bring joy and fulfillment can help counteract feelings of loss.
