im in a position where people ask me for help and I try to help the best I can, even though I don’t know the answers we can find out together. But wouldn’t be more efficient to ask the teacher or even google it?? I’m a noob like you so I’m like the worst person to ask.
I make this post after making a 2 part video tutorial on how to use a program I also just started using, but I covered just the basics u need to start and export ur files. Idk if ive wasted my time because these people could have easily just watched a video tutorial but they asked me??? And why did I go through the effort of even making those videos.. I couldve just sent them the link for the tutorial I watched.
So idk if i was being stupid for putting in all that effort (especially since I got lots of work to do and its due TMR) like I liked helping them but was it the right move in terms of efficiency??? Saying “just google it or ask cher” sounds pretty dismissive to me but it is the right answer… ugh idk im just really conflicted in my head rn and I cant focus
After knowing your situation, i dont think u wasted your time at all. People probably arent asking u because you are the most knowledgeable person, more of you’re approachable and willing to help people. That says more about your character than ur expertise.
But being kind doesnt mean that you have to say yes everytime. It’s okay to protect your own time, especially when you have deadlines. Instead of saying Google it or ask the teacher, you could point them to a tutorial or tel them ti try that first, and if they’re still stuck, you’re happy to help. That way you’re still being supportive without talking on all the work yourself.
Helping others is a great quality, but dont feel guilty for setting boundaries. You can be kind without becoming everyone’s go-to tech support

After hearing your situ, I felt like you have helped what you can and at no point should you put yourself down, your words carry weight more than what people may have said or will say about you, also even if perhaps people have commented in the past and say your effort, it doesn’t define you. your identity isnt your effort. you are more than that.
a teacher who doesn’t give the student the direct answer but guidance of what the student needs is actually a good teacher, because they dont spoon feed you with answers- they equip you and guide you there even if it meant giving you / pointing you to a tutorial/book/ video etc it is still a guide and a guide is meant like a map - it didn’t guarantee you of finding out the answer but it is guiding you to the answer- so at some point they might feel like they are stuck but if you’re not stuck- how would you learn, right ?
