Today, I had this class where we learn how to do videography. But, there is this one teacher that really pmo.
Me and my group had an idea in mind for our mini videography project and shared about it. However, he rejected our idea saying and gave us and unreasonable response. Me and my group think that it is not exactly impossible to do this project with that idea in mind already.
Since we already started working on it, I’m not sure if we should actually listen to the teacher’s comments or just follow our original idea.
honestly speaking, end of the day is he the one grading your project? If he does, i guess you know the answer.
Still…..is he a new teacher? Sounds like a crappy teacher who didnt pay attention in class during his NIE days. Didnt he know that a teacher shouldn’t cut off a student’s creativity?
I hope you can find a 2nd teacher in school who is in a higher position than him and ask them for a 2nd opinion of your idea. Just dont mention that your idea was turn down by him. But just say you wanted more advice. If that 2 nd teacher also say is bad, well….you know lor. If not can you just go ahead. Anything ask the 2nd teacher to back you up.
i may have left out that it wasn’t really a graded project but more towards a extracurricular? But it was mandatory. It is just a small issue so I’m not really sure if I should dwell too much about it. Since there is only about one last course, I shouldn’t think too much, right?
At the end of the day, I’m just a little pissed by why we can’t use our original idea. I feel like I’m maybe just overwhelmed by my emotions of everything that happened today…
Thank you for the advice tho. Will try it out since there’s also another teacher that seems to be of a higher ranking and was also the other teacher who was mostly explaining.
Well….yes…we tend to take negative comments very personally, which is why teachers are taught not to give negative feedback to students.
But i hope you will learn about give and take. And perhaps revamp your original idea a little based on his opinions and do a win win situation?
Still….its good to know there is always someone else to give you 2nd opinion if you decided to go for it.
And learning to seek 2nd opinion is actually a very useful skill in adult life. Where you can seek help from someone else when the first advice is not in your favour. And it will be so much better that feeling lost and distressed or feeling like your a forced to do something you dont like.
Hello @Kiraa thank you for sharing this here. It sounds really frustrating for you and your group to have an idea you were excited about, only to have it rejected by your teacher. That can feel disappointing, especially when you’ve already started imagining how the project would come together.
One approach could be to see if there’s a way to incorporate some elements of your original idea while also including your teacher’s suggestions. This way, you respect his guidance while still keeping parts of your creative vision. It’s generally a good idea to consider the teacher’s comments carefully, since they are the one grading the project, and following their feedback can help avoid misunderstandings.
At the same time, it’s okay to advocate for your ideas in a respectful way. Showing that you’ve thought through your concept and are trying to balance creativity with the teacher’s expectations can reflect well on your group.
