I know that I’m naturally a slow learner when it comes to academics. But the problem is when I study at home. Both my parents always say “Faster, faster” when all I’m trying to do is learn things at my own pace.
For example, I just started doing an assessment book and do a number of topics. My parents expect me to finish it in a short amount of time, and this hurry is stressing me out and its the reason why I prefer learning in school than in my home. The teachers in my school are more understanding and not forcing us to “hurry up” or something like that.
I sometimes also face the same issue, having difficulty learning some stuff. For me, what really helped me is probably asking my friends for help and sometimes my teachers. If your friends don’t really understand too, may I suggest that you could book a group consultation with your teacher? I feel like that really feels a lot less intimidating (at least for me). Or if you don’t rlly want to see your teacher outside of class, you can always ask them after their class or simply sent them an email. The teachers normally reply and are quite nice with it.
As for your parents, perhaps you could explain to them that you’re having difficulties learning quickly? (I know this can be hard as I also have trouble taking to my parents and asking for their help sometimes) So I normally just leave it and ask help from my friends/teachers. Hope this helps!
Hello @undying_sun thank you so much for sharing this here. It sounds really stressful to feel rushed when you’re trying to focus and understand your work properly. It makes complete sense that you’d prefer learning in school, where teachers give you the time and space to absorb things at your own pace.
It’s great that you’re aware of your own learning style and that self-awareness shows how much you care about doing well. You deserve to learn in a way that helps you truly understand the material.
If it feels comfortable, you could try sharing this with your parents and let them know that you’re not avoiding work, but trying to learn more deeply. Studying in a calmer space, like a library or after school, might also help you stay focused without the pressure. You’re already doing your best, and that’s something to be proud of!
that sounds really stressful :(( we all learn at our own pace, and being forced to go faster than we can wouldn’t be helpful for learning
is talking to your parents about how you feel this is unhelpful for you an option? otherwise, when i was schooling i found it helpful to do my studying in school or in a library
how are you coping with all this and your studies?
hello, I understand that it can be quite stressful to speed up your studying, especially since there is a lot of things to grapple with at once. I think sounding this out to your parents may help, and learning at your own pace helps you absorb the content much better. rooting for you op!
It sounds really tough to be in that situation, and I can understand why you’re feeling so stressed. You’re trying your best to learn, but the pressure from your parents to go faster makes it hard to focus and enjoy the process. Wanting to learn at your own pace doesn’t mean you’re lazy or slow, it just means you learn differently, and that’s completely okay. Everyone has their own rhythm when it comes to understanding new things.
It’s great that you’ve noticed you learn better in school, where the environment feels more supportive. At home, maybe you could gently explain to your parents that rushing makes it harder for you to concentrate, and that you do better when you can take your time. You can also try setting small goals like showing them what you’ve completed after each section, so they can see your progress without pushing too hard. Most importantly, be kind to yourself. You’re putting in effort, and that already shows determination and strength.
