Need some little help.

Hi, I’m back again. I need a little bit of medical advice. I have chest pain; it is a sharp pain in the center of my chest. I experience this pain about 6 to 7 times a month. Sometimes it is mild, but at other times it gets worse. When it worsens, I break out in a sweat at night even though I’m in an air-conditioned room. I also get headaches easily — even when I sleep early and drink plenty of water — and I have shortness of breath.

I went to NUH quite a few years ago, when I was around 17 years old. I told the nurses about my chest pain, and they arranged for me to be admitted. They ran blood tests, but they did not mention anything about my chest pain. They only informed me that I had hypoglycemia, which I already knew about: I first developed hypoglycemia when I was 13, and that was when I had my very first seizure. I wanted to go see doctor but I’m afraid that the nurses won’t find any problems about my chest pain. I don’t want my money just burn like that

Hi there, thanks for sharing with us.

I know how it can be sometimes, having reoccurring pains that won’t subside no matter how much you take care of yourself.

For me, visiting a doctor helped me a lot, since either the doctor helps refer me to another doctor who can help better identify my problems or I can get medicines that could reduce the pain enough for me so that I can go on with my daily life.

if possible, maybe try to get a letter from the clinic about your chest pain so if you go to NUH, they are more likely to focus on your chest pain.

Wishing you all the best!

Dear @Isha

Thank you for reaching out. Reading your post, I fully get how worried you must be not knowing what is contributing to the chest pains and the other symptoms you shared. I believe anyone in your shoes who is facing similar health symptoms would also seek out answers. In the past you attempted to, but the outcome left you disappointed, and your questions were left unanswered.

I suggest that it would be timely to make an appointment at a polyclinic soonest and provide the attending doctor a full account of your symptoms, both its severity and frequency. Request for a thorough medical evaluation and discuss referrals to hospitals as a subsided patient. I believe seeking medical help would be most appropriate.

Please know you fully deserve getting the medical support you need to address the health issues you are facing. Tap on these soon to get the most appropriate relief you need towards better health. Sending you much warmth and care. :yellow_heart:

Thanks for sharing this. I can imagine how scary and frustrating it must be to deal with chest pains and other symptoms without knowing what’s causing them. It makes total sense that you’d want answers, and I’m sorry that when you tried to get help before, it didn’t go well and left you feeling disappointed with more questions than answers.

I know your experience wasn’t great, but if you feel ready, it might be worth trying again to see a doctor at a polyclinic. When you go, it could help to write down everything you’re experiencing, how often it happens, and how severe it gets, so you don’t forget anything during the appointment. You can also ask for a thorough evaluation and raise the possibility of referral to a hospital as a subsidised patient if needed. I get that reaching out for medical help again might feel daunting after what happened before, so only do this when you feel comfortable and ready. But these symptoms sound severe enough that getting them checked out properly could really help you figure out what’s going on.

You deserve to get proper medical support for what you’re going through. Your health matters, and it’s okay to advocate for yourself and keep pushing for answers even if the first attempt didn’t work out. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you find the relief and clarity you need. Take care of yourself! :folded_hands:

Thanks for sharing and I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. Honestly, it sounds frightening and exhausting, and I can hear how much anxiety this has been causing you.

Chest pain is one of those things that instantly makes your mind spiral, especially when it keeps coming back and no one gave you a clear answer before. It’s completely understandable that you’re scared of going again, only to be told “nothing’s wrong” and feel like your money and emotions were wasted. That kind of experience sticks with you.

At the same time, what you’re describing…sharp chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating at night, frequent headaches, this is your body clearly saying something isn’t right, even if the cause isn’t obvious yet. It doesn’t mean it’s something catastrophic, but it does mean you deserve to be properly listened to and checked. Pain that keeps returning is real pain, regardless of whether it shows up neatly on a test.

You’re not weak or paranoid for worrying. And you’re not wrong for hesitating. You’re just someone who’s been let down once and doesn’t want to go through that again.

If it helps, you don’t have to jump straight into a big hospital visit. Starting with a GP or polyclinic can be less overwhelming and more affordable, and you can tell them upfront about your past experiences and your fear of not being taken seriously. I believe that alone can change how the conversation goes. Take care!
