I’m so restless for the past days thinking I would wake up with disability because of my thumb and now foot.

Hi @bunnyonmoon

First, I want to acknowledge how frightening and exhausting this must feel—physical pain, uncertainty about your health, and feeling dismissed by someone you rely on for support. It’s completely normal to feel scared and restless in this situation, and you’re not overreacting. You’ve already taken brave steps by visiting a clinic and advocating for yourself, which shows real strength. Let’s work through this together.

  • Follow Up with a Doctor: Since the numbness and pain are spreading (thumb → feet), it’s important to rule out underlying causes like infection, nerve issues or circulation problems. Return to the clinic or ask for a referral to a specialist (e.g., neurologist or orthopedist). You could say:
“The medication hasn’t helped, and the numbness is getting worse. I’m really worried—can we explore other tests or see a specialist?”
  • Track Symptoms: Write down details (when it started, triggers, how it feels) to share with the doctor. This helps them identify patterns.

Addressing Your Mum’s Response

  • Use “I Feel” Statements: Instead of arguing about phone use, focus on your fear and need for support. For example:
“Mum, I know you’re worried about my phone habits, but I’m really scared about this pain. I need your help to figure out what’s wrong.”

Managing Anxiety and Sleep

  • Ground Yourself: When panic rises, try box breathing (inhale 4 sec → hold 4 sec → exhale 4 sec → repeat). It calms the nervous system.
  • Challenge Catastrophic Thoughts: Remind yourself: “Right now, I don’t have all the answers, but I’m taking steps to get them. Worrying won’t predict the future.”
  • Rest Strategies: Even if you can’t sleep, rest your body. Listen to a calming podcast or ASMR to quiet your mind.

This Isn’t Your Fault. Chronic pain/numbness is rarely caused by one habit (like phone use). Many factors could be at play, and you deserve compassionate care—not blame. Many people experience unexplained physical symptoms, and help is available. Keep advocating for yourself—you’re worth it.

If you feel that the first clinic doesn’t take it seriously, ask a trusted adult or friend to accompany you. They can help reinforce your concerns if you feel unheard. If the pain persists, go back to the doctor again, persistent symptoms warrant attention.

You’re doing everything right by reaching out and pushing for answers. Keep going—I’m rooting for you. Let us know how it goes with your mum and the doctor, okay? You don’t have to carry this fear alone.

Sending you calm and strength.

hey @bunnyonmoon thanks for sharing this. It must feel scary to suddenly feel numbness first on your thumb and now on your foot, and it is certainly brave of you to address this and talk about it. I would suggest visiting the clinic again or another clinic for a second opinion on what might be causing the numbness and hopefully get some solace from an expert opinion on this. In the meantime, do take care and you can do some exercises that help with relaxation such as deep breathing.

Keep us posted!

@bunnyonmoon That sounds stressful. I wonder how are you feeling today? Good to find out from the clinic on what are the prognosis of the condition which warrants another visit to the GP clinic.

hey @bunnyonmoon, i’m really sorry you’re going through this . it sounds incredibly scary & exhausting to be in so much pain and not know what’s going on. and i can only imagine how much harder it is when the people around you don’t take it seriously and blame you instead. that’s not fair — your pain is real, and you deserve to be supported, not dismissed.

you did the right thing by going to the clinic, and i really hope the meds start helping soon. but if things don’t improve, i agree with the others — it might be worth getting a 2nd opinion. sometimes, it takes a bit of persistence to find the right support and answers.

i’ll be keeping you in my thoughts. hope that your pain subsides soon and that you’ll feel like yourself again. please keep us updated on your situation ok, we’re here for you!

Hey, I’m really sorry you’re going through this—it sounds incredibly scary and exhausting. It’s valid to be worried, especially when pain and numbness start spreading like that. You’re doing your best by getting it checked and being honest about your habits, and it’s okay to want more help or treatment like a massage.

That said, it might also be a good idea to go for a follow-up check at the clinic—or even a different one—just to make sure nothing’s being missed. A massage could help with tension, but if the numbness is spreading, it’s worth having a professional take another look. I really hope your mum understands how serious it feels to you. You deserve to be heard and supported. Wishing you comfort and answers soon :blue_heart::blue_heart::blue_heart:

I guess you can try going to free TCM clinics. But i am not sure if there need parental consent for people who are underage.

You can try to look up for Tzu Zhi Free TCM clinic online for information.

I am not wrong the meds you get from the clinic is some kind of Vitamin B complex. Which dont really work well.

But try to walk more it might help to reduce the numbness. Hand wise, try getting those hand grip exercise thingy. Not sure what was it called.

In the past i have tingling issues on both my hands after taking some mood stabilisers at the highest possible dose. but was shortly after i stop the med the tingling feeling was gone. Still…2 yrs ago, i suffered permanent nerve damage on my left hand during blood donation. Does scare me, but knowing nothing much can be done in GH base healthcare standards, i just live with it bah.

But your case, sounds like you need to reboot your blood circulation.

thank you so much. i just got some vitamin from a pharmacy and heard it works for the pain I’m going through and I would say it lowkey works for now, i can move my fingers better. now my biggest fear would be not getting better before my uni life starts  every night i try to sleep, i still feel the numbness and tingling in my both arms and left foot, it’s a horrible feeling. so hard to sleep, so hard to rest  I’m stressing out a lot because of how minimize my movements are and my mum won’t understand and I’m always in charge of taking care of my little siblings which apparently can worsen the pain. I’ve been waking up for every two hours and sometimes drench in sweat even though the fan is just above me :slightly_frowning_face: i woke up after 3 hours of sleep earlier and felt the ringing in my left ear which frightened me but it died down. i know i shouldn’t use my phone a lot since it was the main factor why I’m in so much pain right now but I don’t have anything to distract me. even fake scenarios. i could only pray to God and he slowly tries to heal me  the used to be purple ish and redness bump on my thumb is now gone, but yet I sometimes snap at the Lord because I don’t notice the small change he does for me and how slow he is taking his time to heal me  thank you for your concern, i appreciate it. I won’t forget your kind words when I heal one day

hi sorry for the late response :heart: you’re so sweet i cried reading your response :sob::folded_hands: I slowly get better but I don’t like how slow it is for me to get better as my uni life will start soon and it’s so stressful :slightly_frowning_face: it’s so hard to sleep and rest as the tingling and numbness just never leave me :sob: my sleep is less than 3 hours but then i force myself to sleep again then wake up again and sleep again because to recover i need rest and sleep even though its so hard  i got my period 6 days early which explained my stress  i really want to get better soon but I don’t have anything to distract myself other than my phone which was the main reason I’m in this agony :sob:

hi and sorry for the late response :folded_hands: I got some vitamin from a pharmacy which I think lowkey works for me but I’m stressing out about how slow it kicks in even though i got the vitamin only 2 days ago :sob: my uni life will start in less than a week which worsen the pain since I can’t stress much or else the inflammation will worsen but I can’t help it :sob: they don’t hurt when i move lightly but when i rest it’s hell  the tingling and numbness kill me which made it hard for me to rest. thank you for your concern, i can barely type but really want to appreciate you for your concern and support :heart:

thank you for sharing your story and solution  i got some vitamin from a pharmacy which contains exactly what you said and they lowkey works for me even though it only has been 2 days. but I still can’t deny the tingling and numbness are hell and won’t escape me especially when I try to rest  I can’t do much more other than relying on the vitamin and the Lord to heal me asap because my uni life will start soon :sob: if they worsen then my dad will take me to a hospital  but i really hate appointments, if my option to get better soon means going to the hospital, please pray for me that my appointments will fall on weekends :folded_hands: thank you again for sharing your experience, I’m glad you’re over it. i hope i can be like you soon :folded_hands:

Try not to worry too much and rest more. And engage in more physical activity. If your dad is supportive of your treatment. do ask him to bring you for TCM. You can just try the free one, I guess for you situation TCM might just work better compared to Western med. From what i know acupuncture is good for treating nerve-related issues.

And some gov hospital actually use TCM to treat nerve related injury, but provided the general doctor knows how to refer you to one. So far, i only know SKGH, NUH and SGH for TCM available.

tysm :folded_hands: it’s so hard to not worry or even rest because they hurt more when i do nothing. i do some hand exercises and more physical activities just now and could say i feel better a bit.

good to hear that you feel a bit better, but try not to sit down for more than an hr, stand up and walk around your house for a while to improve blood circulation.

But…pls don’t over-exercise too.

Take care. :growing_heart:
