recent panic attacks

hi ! i’ve been doing relatively well in life and i’m quite happy, but i’ve been having panic attacks lately. i’ve had two over the span of the past two weeks. i think the first one happened due to much consumption regarding content related to the end of times or the downfall of society + thoughts about uni and reconsidering the educational/career path that i want to take in life. the second one is happening due to death anxiety. it’s really uncomfortable to be experiencing this and i need some help in regulating or managing such thoughts and what really helps when having a panic attack or how to prevent it from happening if possible. it tends to happen late at night when i have matters to attend to in the early morning… i understand that these thoughts can be very overwhelming hence these attacks happen but i js can’t exactly stop thinking ab it… any input or advice is much appreciated, thank you so much ! <3

I agree that panic attacks can be scary and are deeply uncomfortable, especially when they come suddenly when everything is actually going relatively well in life.

What you’re experiencing is understandable and relatable. I believe that topics like death, the future, or the state of the world do have the effect of overwhelming the nervous system, especially late at night when you’re tired and been thinking hard about several important life areas.

May I share that although panic attacks feel scary, please know they are not dangerous and they do pass through if you ride them out.

May I gently suggest that if you sense you are going to have panic attack, focus on calming your body rather than stopping the thoughts. Some tips are to:

  • Slow your breathing (longer exhales help)

  • Ground yourself by noticing what you can see, feel, or hear

  • Gently remind yourself: “This is panic. I’m safe. It will pass.

I also recommend that you limit heavy or doom-related content at night, write worries down earlier in the evening, and observe good sleeping habits that ensure you get enough rest.

Do take these suggested steps soon to prevent panic attacks from occurring in future. :yellow_heart:
