Hi user 1218
Well done for the courage to seek help! ![]()
It’s great that you want to improve your focusing and Maths skills! Here are a few tips to help you get better and stay focused:
Start with the Basics:
Make sure you understand basic concepts before moving on to harder ones. Practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division until you’re comfortable with them.
Set Small Goals:
Break your study time into small, manageable chunks. For example, study for 20 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. This can help you stay focused and not feel overwhelmed. I use the Pomodoro method where I set a timer and get started on the task at hand. No distractions, just get started. Once you establish the habit, it will be easier to start and focus.
Practice Regularly:
Practice a little bit every day. Consistency is key to improving Maths. Even 45 minutes a day can make a big difference. When doing sums, don’t just look at the solution. Do the steps of the problems yourself. That helps to better the learning ![]()
Ask for Help:
If you’re stuck on something, don’t be afraid to ask a teacher, parent, or friend for help. Sometimes a different explanation can make things click. Arrange one to one consult with your teacher at school. Don’t be afraid to ask. They would appreciate your perseverance. Always try first though, so you can be more specific in asking questions during the consult.
Stay Positive:
Remember that it’s okay to make mistakes. Each mistake is a learning opportunity. Stay positive and patient with yourself.
Use Visual Aids:
Drawing pictures or using objects (like coins or blocks) can help you understand math problems better.
Get external tuition.
Affordable, effective and subsidised tuition is available with self-help groups like Mendaki, SINDA and CDAC. Ask your teacher or trusted adult at home to help you source.
Strive for daily improvement. If you improve by 1% daily, eventually you have the potential to master studying, focusing and Maths! Try to see how Maths is used in everyday life. Cooking, shopping, and playing sports all involve Maths. This can make learning more relevant and interesting.
Keep at it! You can do it ![]()
