What is mindfulness? #2

Hello again everyone :wave:t2:

This time, I’m going to be sharing some tips on how to incorporate mindful practices into our daily lives!

Pick a quiet place. Close your eyes. Start with being aware of your breathing. This relaxes the body as the brain knows what’s going to happen next after breathing in (which is breathing out, and then breathing in, and then breathing out, and then…).

Give yourself something to pay attention to by directing your attention toward negative space - notice the silence between sounds, focus on the darkness behind the eyelids, imagine the vastness of space or the night sky.

When your mind wanders to the future or the past and it’s not helpful to think about it more, bring it back to your current experience. Also, when you notice an unwillingness to experience unwanted thoughts, emotions, and/or sensations, take note of them, allow them to be present without trying to control them, and bring your attention back to the breath.

And when you’re done, slowly open back your eyes.

Here’s more tips on how to keep this mindfulness practice going:

  • Build a little (1 minute works too) at a time
  • Schedule a recurring time on your phone calendar
  • Pair mindfulness with an established daily routine
  • Let go of expectations for immediate results
  • Let go of judgment as there’s no one ‘right’ way to integrate mindfulness into your life.
  • Give yourself permission to return to your practice without judgment
  • Consider a digital detox

Lemme know what y’all think about this, and feel free to ask any questions if you have any! Good luck practicing
