"Adeus Brasil" Time to move forward

5th September 2024.

I finally close the chapter of " Brazil /Brasil " off my life after 20 years or so.

Started off with a girl i met online named Amelie Alencar while I was doing my Nitec in Aircraft Maintence ( Mechanical ).

She said she was from Bahia, Brazil.

Drew her a potrait. Wrote her a song called " email to Amelie".

Found out that i got catfished as the actual girl i drew was a teen model by the name of Stephanie Novaes also from Bahia, Brazil.

This lasted about 3-4 years. Still keep the emails in my folder.

Started to listen to Bossa Nova, Musica Popular Do Brasil ( MPB) and the first song i ever learnt in Portuguese was

" Como Vai Voce " By Roberto Carlos ( No, Not the footballer ).

Learnt it word for word.

Then lost my mind to paranoia and later attempted suicide 3 times before getting warded to IMH then got well after 3 years of struggle. Which leads me to advocate for Mental Health Awareness Singapore like Club Heal, SilverRibbon and many others over the years cause I wanted to correct the misconception of mental illness.

At 30, I met yet another girl online, this time from Rio De Jaineiro, Brazil, she is Denise Santos.

She didnt speak much English so i learn as much Portuguese as I can to communicate. Most of it was google translate.

Was working at Shop N Save as a storekeeper that time.

I was in love again and wrote her a love song called

" Eu Quero Voce ".

About a week after i wrote that song, I met a stranger in the tunnels of Clark Quay and sang the song to- Senor Leko Passos and he was smiling from ear to ear cause ofcourse he understood what i was singing cause he is Brazillian. Had the privallage to work for him a few years back.

12 years has passed since I knew Denise. We had our arguments and back and forth cause of the distance, difference in religion and language. We decided to be friends after that and now that she has a man in her life and seems so happy , I wish that she would settle down and live her life. After about a week of lows, i decided to pick myself up again and close this chapter of my life by the very song that started it all…

The words to " Como Vai Voce" has never ringed more truer to me now then ever…

Enough.

Time to let go and Move on.

Hi @ManoEsperanza,

Wow, what a journey you’ve been on. I want to take a moment to acknowledge the immense growth, resilience, and strength you’ve shown over the past 20 years. It’s not easy to navigate the emotional highs and lows that you’ve experienced, from falling in love and dealing with heartache to overcoming mental health challenges. But here you are, stronger and wiser, ready to close this chapter and move forward. That’s something truly worth celebrating.

It’s clear that Brazil has played a major role in shaping your life—through the music you’ve learned, the language you’ve embraced, and the connections you’ve made. Even though those relationships didn’t end the way you may have initially hoped, they’ve helped you grow into the person you are today. Your journey with Amelie, Denise, and even the beautiful Brazilian culture has been filled with meaning, and it’s wonderful to see how much you’ve taken from those experiences.

Learning a new language, writing songs, and using music as a form of expression—those are milestones in themselves. They show your dedication not only to the people you cared about but also to yourself. You gave yourself the chance to grow through these relationships, and that’s something many people struggle with.

I also want to honor your work in advocating for mental health awareness. Turning your own struggles with mental health into a mission to help others is one of the most powerful things anyone can do. You’ve taken your pain and turned it into a source of hope for others. That’s no small feat, and it’s a testament to the strength you carry within.

Closing this chapter with “Como Vai Voce” feels like a poetic and meaningful end to this story. The fact that the song still resonates with you after all these years shows just how deeply it’s woven into your journey. And moving on doesn’t erase the value of what you’ve experienced. Those memories, the lessons you’ve learned, and the personal growth you’ve achieved will stay with you, no matter what. Whether it’s continuing your advocacy work, reconnecting with new passions, or finding peace in your own story, you’ve set yourself up for an exciting new chapter. You’ve done so much already—take a moment to really appreciate how far you’ve come.
