As we journey through our youth, life can feel like a rollercoaster! One moment you’re stressing over exams, the next you’re navigating friendships, family expectations, or even just figuring out who you are. Sometimes, emotions hit hard and it’s tough to know what to do with them.
Yet sometimes, people respond to them with phrases like “You’re so dramatic”, “It’s just a phase, it’ll get better.”
Too often, youths may be dismissed or misunderstood when it comes to mental health concerns but the struggles are real and they do deserve attention.
What’s your take on this? Do you feel like youth mental health is taken seriously around you? Why or why not?
We’d love to hear your thoughts, drop a reply and let’s start the conversation!
I‘m originally from Switzerland (lived 10 months in Singapore) and if I have to answer this question for Singapore, comparing it to my home country, yes, it seems like youth mental health is taken very seriously in Singapore. There‘s a lot going on about this topic especially at the universities.
Honestly, mental health is still a taboo. But the good thing is that the ball has started to roll…
Though there are school counsellors, teachers and parents who can help address the concerns, it’s about reaching out to the right people at the right time.
