Crying is More Important Than You Think

Hey everyone!

Have you ever felt like you need to hold back your tears because it’s “not cool” to cry or it makes you seem weak? Well, I’m here to tell you that crying is actually one of the most natural and important things we can do for our mental health.

Crying helps us release emotions that we might be bottling up inside. Whether it’s frustration, sadness, or even joy, those tears help us process what we’re feeling and can make us feel lighter afterward. It’s like a pressure valve that helps to relieve emotional stress. In fact, studies have shown that crying can trigger the release of endorphins—our body’s natural feel-good hormones. So, after a good cry, we often feel more relaxed and calm.

Plus, crying is a way of communicating that something is going on inside us. It can signal to others that we need support or that we’re dealing with something difficult, even if we can’t put it into words.

So, if you ever feel the urge to cry, don’t fight it. Give yourself permission to express your emotions—it’s a sign of strength, not weakness.

Question for you: When was the last time you let yourself have a good cry? How did you feel afterward?

Let’s talk about it! :speech_balloon::blue_heart:

It’s nice to know the science behind crying, makes me feel like it’s more okay to cry hahaha

I’m so notoriously bad at this tbh. I find it really hard to have a good proper cry. Even one of my therapists said “I’ve seen you for two years and you’ve never shed a tear”

But I love to be there for someone when they cry cause it also shows that they trust me enough to hold that space for them, and I can be there to support them

the last time i had a good cry, i felt a lot lighter afterwards. even though i was still a lil sad after crying, all that crying made me super sleepy and i took a really great nap to sleep off the sadness :grin:.

personally, im a huge crybaby and i cry easily at sad movies or things that make me upset, but i have no shame in that! i sometimes find it difficult to put my feelings into words, so crying makes it so much easier to express my frustration/sadness/anger etc.

crying is my most favourite way to cope with negative emotions, and i hope that more people realise that its completely normal and ok to cry :slight_smile:

really agree that having a good cry helps a lot… i just realised this recently and have no shame in needing a good cry at times. i don’t always realise it when i am in need of a release, i just find myself crying out of nowhere after a period of emotional stress, and notice that i feel so much better after :relieved:
