How can I get better.

I’ve noticed something in me change ever since I started poly. My emotions are all jumbled up in a mess and I’ve started to consistently miss lessons even though I know the consequences of such actions, I’ve tried just forcing myself to go but my mood sours and I just feel all my energy drains out of me. I do personally feel that leaving my games also exacerbates it. I’m not really sure how to phrase all my problems out here so that’s all.

Hey @creativesnowdrop7807,

Thank you for sharing what you’ve been going through on the platform. I hear that you’ve noticed some changes ever since entering poly. Your emotions seemed to be in a mess, you feel drained and your mood goes down when you try to go for classes, and this seemed to worsen when leaving your games. It certainly isn’t easy when such changes happen, and sometimes it can get confusing and affect our daily lives.

I’m really glad you reached out of the platform. From what you’ve mentioned, it seems that you have the awareness that something isn’t right, and that’s always the first step in changing!

There could be a number of reasons you’re feeling the way you do. You’ve mentioned that whenever you force yourself to go to class, your mood sours and you feel drained. I wonder, what are some thoughts that go through your mind when this happens? Do you also feel a lot of pressure and stress when you entered poly?

Additionally, I think it’s normal to look for something we enjoy, like playing games, when we feel down. Games can provide a form of distraction from what we’re feeling. I think it’s a great way when the feelings get overwhelming to stabilise ourselves. However, if we do not address what’s affecting us, these feelings may come back. If you’re comfortable, a suggestion I have would be to try journaling to get a better understanding of what you’re feeling. If not, you could reach out to your school counsellor for help. They’ll be able to guide you through what you’re going through and help you get a better understanding of why you’re feeling the way you are. Would you be open to trying these?

Know that you deserve support and that we’re here for you

Hey @creativesnowdrop7807,

It sounds like you can tell that something feels different compared to before, even if you cannot fully explain it yet.

What you described does not sound like simply not caring about school. You mentioned knowing the consequences, trying to force yourself to attend lessons, but your mood drops and your energy becomes very low when you do. Sometimes when someone keeps trying to push through but still feels drained, it can be a sign that stress or emotional exhaustion has been building for some time.

The transition into poly can also affect people more than they expect. There is usually more independence, less structure, different social environments, and more pressure to manage things on your own. Some people cope well immediately, while others take longer to adjust.

I also noticed you mentioned games. Sometimes gaming is not only entertainment. It can also become a way for someone to rest mentally, feel familiar with something, or temporarily step away from stress. So if your routine with games changed, it may have affected how you regulate stress as well.

You do not need to explain everything perfectly right now. Even being able to notice that your emotions feel “jumbled up” is already useful information.

For now, it may help to pay attention to whether:

  • your sleep has changed,
  • are you feeling tired most days,
  • are you still enjoy things normally,
  • or school itself has started feeling emotionally heavy.

If this continues for a while or starts affecting more areas of your daily life, consider speaking with your school counsellor or a mental health professional early. Getting support earlier can make things easier to manage before the stress builds further.

Thank you for sharing this here.
