i’m currently in year 2 of my poly course, i’m studying something i don’t like and took this course a year ago because i was rejected form all my options and i didn’t know what else to pressure after ITE. it has only been 2 weeks since school started and i have been getting too overwhelmed and have been crying on the daily. due to my workload and me not having an company in class ( i had good company but after the sem break they would exclude me). i think i’m also burnt out. in year 1, i was very stressed out and would also get so anxious because of the workload, but my grades were really good cause of that. the difference now is, i can barely focus on work and just cry. everyday feels exhausting cause of this.
I feel very alone and i have so much to do, but no time to feel.
I don’t know how to go about this, but other than “tough it out” and i’m tired of that. I have been thinking of dropping out, but i wouldn’t know what to do next.
Dear @puddingluv
Thank you for reaching out. I can see how discouraged and down you are currently feeling. School has been very challenging as the course is one you are not interested in. Furthermore I’m hearing there has been little or no peer support so it makes it worse for you. What you are going through is fully understandable given the circumstances you shared.
Please know that your mental health is a top priority. Please take care of yourself during this period. When you feel anxious or overwhelmed by thoughts, ground yourself to the present moment by taking deep breaths and observing what you see, smell, and hear. Remind yourself that thoughts are not facts. Greater self awareness and mindfulness can help loosen the grip of negative thoughts on you. Thereafter choose actions aligned to your values. Being in the present moment will help you make better decisions on next steps. Prioritise self-care sleep and regular breaks to recharge. Be kind to yourself, always.
May I encourage you to speak to your parents soon and let them know what you are struggling with. Collectively, brainstorm options to take.
There is also professional support available that addresses your needs. These are:
a)school counsellor
b)national mindline reachable at 1771. This hotline operates round the clock so immediate support from counsellors is available. The counsellors can connect you with suitable resources that meet your needs.
b)service wayfinder tool and resources available at mindline.
You can use the service wayfinding tool to locate providers near you who do not charge for their services and give you the option to do sessions online if you prefer.
You fully deserve support so please reach out soon, I believe it can get better by taking small steps forward.
Hey there, thanks for sharing something so personal.
I’m really sorry you’re going through this. It sounds incredibly overwhelming, especially feeling alone while everything is piling up. Crying every day and struggling to focus isn’t you being weak, it’s a sign you’re burnt out and your mind needs support, not more pressure.
You don’t have to just “tough it out.” It’s okay to pause and figure out what you actually need right now. Before making a big decision like dropping out, it might really help to talk to someone in school, like a counselor, lecturer, or advisor, so you’re not carrying this alone and can explore your options properly.
Right now, just focus on getting through each day in small steps. You’re not stuck forever, even if it feels like it. And you deserve support through this, not just endurance:)
