For the past year ever since I made my first female friend, I’ve been feeling like dying everyday because she has minimized texting to me even though she used to initiate texts with me everyday. For context we are both in university and she has a boyfriend but i grew emotionally attached to her even though we were just friends and I reached a point where I dont feel happy anymore because it feels like she has been distancing herself away from me now because of my feelings for her.
At the same time, I know she loves to text people and she has been texting so many other friends but never texts me anymore. I know I should move on but I cant help but feel worthless and insignificant as an individual because of this and everytime i see her having fun texting and talking to other guys makes me feel so depressed and I really hate whats it has been doing to my mental state for so long. I wish I was able to expand my social circle so this wouldnt have as much of an impact on me but I have a hard time initiating texts with others because of a huge fear of rejection and texting anxiety and I feel like I am just keeping myself in this position and cant get myself out.
I hate to say it but you’re probably not as interesting anymore to her. As a girl she probably gets a lot of attention; you are competing with a lot of other dudes, we have to be interesting and engaging otherwise too bad..
I think also that you are too invested in this friendship because she is the only female friend in your life right? well probably the same for a good number of dude. It never ends well.
I would say there is nothing much you can do other than move on as you already know, find someone else that can reciprocate. Just don’t talk to her anymore i guess; i feel she will just forget about you easily… she has so many options based on what you said.
We have no choice but to just try to approach others. If we just do nothing, we will get absolutely nothing. We are just dudes bro.
I’m sorry if i come across as a nihilistic pessimist; i am one.
Hey @youthfulvanilla9688,
Thank you for being so open and sharing your struggles on the platform. I hear that you’ve been feeling down inside from what’s been happening between you and your female friend. I hear that this issue with her has affected your mental state for a long time, and that it has been making you feel depressed and worthless. It’s understandable you’ll feel down and find it difficult to move on, especially if it concerns someone close to you.
For what’s happening between you and your female friend, I think now maybe a good time to step back and reflect on why what’s happening between you and her is affecting you so much. Is it because she’s a close friend, or could it be something more? I think once you’ve gotten some clarity over this, when you’re ready and comfortable, you could try reaching out to her and talking to her about how you’ve been feeling and how it’s been affecting you, and see what she says about it.
What concerns me more is when you mentioned about how your mental state has been affected, and your fear of rejection and texting anxiety is something that is making it difficult for you to expand your social circle. This may indicate that something deeper could be affecting you. If you’re open, there is support available too. If you’d like to speak to someone over the phone, you can always reach out to National Mindline 1771. You can call them at 1771/whatsapp them at 66691771. They are available 24/7, and can discuss support options with you. Alternatively, you can reach out to your school’s counsellor and work things through with them.
Know that you don’t have to do this alone, and that there is help available if you feel stuck
We’re here for you too
