hi, its my first time here but i think i might need some advice
for context i have been texting a guy for a few months now and it has been really quite enjoyable thus far but i realised that it is taking a toll on my mental health sometimes as i tend to overthink a lot. overall this made me realise a lot of insecurities and flaws i had to work on. currently i have national exams to face and its currently prelims rn but i cant really study and the stress from academics and emotional baggage from overthinking this talking stage is really difficult to sit through but im not really sure what to do because i still do enjoy talking to him. however i am aware that i need to focus on my exams though although i dont really have anymore motivation to study..
Dear @breadloaf
Thank you for reaching out as you navigate this challenging period in your life. Understandably you are feeling confused as the texting is enjoyable yet you are also noticing that it has affected your mental health. I sense the texting relationship may not be that healthy and recommend that you speak to a counsellor or trusted adult on it with some urgency.
Furthermore, from your sharing, I believe it has contributed to you spending less time and energy on your academics. I sense you want to do well but realising that much energy and attention has been channeled towards the texting relationship, leaving little attention towards studies.
It may help for you to consider a reset and to recalibrate your priorities to focus on until your exams are completed. I fully get that motivation to study is currently low, which happens to many of us. Do start small to get back on track. Set daily goals on topics to revise and study in 25 min blocks. During this 25 min block, remove all distractions. Quiz yourself at the end of the study period and take a 5 min break if needed and continue. Enlist help from school teachers to keep you accountable and on track.
Slowly but steadily you will feel more empowered, in charge and fulfilled. Please take the tiny steps towards the direction you seek and achieve the positive outcomes you deserve . Reach out here whenever needed for support.
