i feel really selfish

So, recently my mom booked a flight to india AND I REALLY DO NOT WANNA GO:sob: like its after my exams and im not done with my exams yet, but im so stressed out over going to india, flying is the first part of it im TERRIFIED of it like terrified, i need to be told atleast a year in advance that im going on a flight but this was like!! 2 months!! i cant do it, plus, i hate it when order is disrupted, like i already had plans for the holidays and that disrupts it and it makes me so anxious, mad and sad!!! i really do not wanna go! theres noting for me to enjoy there anyways, i couldnt careless about the nature or whatever. But, i tried speaking to my mom about this and she told me to just stop being selfish and that she also needs to enjoy life.

I mean, if i stayed she would still go and that would genuinely stress me out so bad, i cant even handle it when shes outside going to buy groceries, i’ll start crying. BUT I REALLY DONT WANNA GO, other people have told to just go get medicine from doctor to sleep whatever, but i really do not wanna go! i tried telling my mama just now but she told me that she didnt care about me anymore and i should just shut up and go. im so stressed out, people also keep telling me to just think about it after my exams but i cant!!! :(((( im so stressed out i cant

Hi @productivesquirrel3182. Oh gosh, that’s a lot to be dealing with all at once. Exams, a surprise trip, a scary flight, AND a really upsetting conversation with your mum. No wonder you’re overwhelmed.

The “just stop thinking about it until after your exams” advice, while well-meaning, is not beneficial when your brain is already spiralling. You can’t just switch that off.

What your mum said, that she doesn’t care about you anymore, that must have really stung, especially when you were trying to be honest with her about how you’re feeling. Even if she said it out of frustration, it’s still a painful thing to hear.

I do want to gently say something though, and I hope it comes across kindly. The way you described your anxiety, needing a year’s notice for flights, crying when your mum goes to get groceries, feeling like your whole world tips over when plans change, that sounds like anxiety that’s really taken hold in a big way. And that’s not you being weak or dramatic, it genuinely sounds exhausting to live with. The trip is stressful, but it sounds like the anxiety was already there before the trip came up.

That’s worth getting some real support for, not just tips to survive the flight. Talking to a doctor or counsellor about what you’re experiencing day to day could make a real difference, not just for India, but for your life generally.

i have spoken to a councillor and talked with someone on call here, but they just keep saying the same thing its so annoying! like i cant just ignore it and i cant just go! like idk i do have an imh appointment soon which will be my first, but what are they supposed to do? i keep arguing with my mom everyday about the flight and all she says ‘think of it as you sacrificing yourself for my happiness’ ??? but i dont care, my mom isnt the best mom anyways. and yeah i guess im kinda selfish for that…
