hi guys. idk anymore i just need somewhere to VENT MY FEELINGS cos tell me why i have a paper tmr (like my last post lol if u saw) but the urgency is nonexistent the drive to study becos i’ve been failing this subject the past 2 years is nonexistent the motivation to put away distractions and attempt to even stare at some notes is NONEXISTENT my gosh. i’m frustrated at myself and tbh rn ive come to a state of acceptance as in im just gonna get through As and if i fail As and i have to go to a private uni next year then so be it cos what even is life anymore. anyone else feeling or felt the same way cos like everyone around me if studying or seems to be studying or if they’re not studying it’s cos they’re smart and get good grades for at least the other subjects if not the one tmr UGHHH idk why is life like this
Hey @manda1 , I’m really glad you felt comfortable enough to vent here. A-levels can really bring out that pressure—especially when it feels like everyone else is somehow getting through it or finding it easier.
Sometimes, when the drive just isn’t there, it’s because we’re mentally and emotionally exhausted. You’ve been pushing yourself for two years, facing failures that would’ve been discouraging for anyone, and now it makes complete sense that you’re feeling burnt out and like giving up. Be kind to yourself here; no one can be endlessly motivated, especially when the journey’s been so tough.
Getting through A-levels is about more than just scores. The fact that you’ve kept at it for so long already speaks to your strength and resilience. Grades are important, sure, but they’re not the only thing that defines you or your future. And honestly, going to a private uni if that’s where life takes you isn’t a failure; it’s just another path, and lots of people take different routes to success and happiness.
As for tomorrow’s paper, regardless of how you’re feeling now, I’m rooting for you and truly wishing it goes in your favor. Sometimes, a bit of encouragement can make a difference, and I hope when you sit down, things just flow and come together for you. Jia you!!
i think it is hard to study a subject u dont like. i didnt like what i studied in secondary school n it was hard to study. i didnt get into a course i liked but it was still design. Design was easy to study since i liked it. Hope u get a course u like in uni. AS for finding motivation to study what u dont like, u have to build a list of reasons why u should study this n get good grades. like i need to study this to get good grades to get into a course i want in uni n my parents cant afford private uni. Not a good example and i know that this advice is last minute
Hello @manda1 ! It seems like you’re going through a rough period with school. At this point of time, just try your best and I know it’s easier said than done but ultimately, whatever results that is, you’ve tried your best. It is dreadful but it will be over even before you know. I can resonate to that feeling of failing all the way because I was there before. However, miracle or etc., I passed in my finals . You can do it! Give your best alright !
Maybe you need to understand why you are learning that subject matter.
I think it was difficult for me to excel at things because I wasn’t motivated enough about the subject. So I dropped out of school at 14 and didn’t complete many academic subject matters.
But realised actually once I found the reason why the subject matters are taught, and how they’re used in the real world, then I could understand why I needed to understand some things more and why or how I needed to understand them for me to apply the skill sets better. Which is what an exam is right, a test to understand how well we understood the subject matter.
So perhaps if we work upwards (and this is a more like, career thing), what problems and how do I want to contribute to the world? What jobs help contribute to which aspect of life? And how do those translate to the skills I need to learn to contribute to that facet of the role?
Then like you have your uses for those skill sets and then you can focus on whether you really need or want to score an A there. Because it was important enough and mastering it is how you’ll do well in that field.
