Is it normal to feel/be like this?

Ive had this feeling for really long already, but it recently got worse. I dont know when it started, but sometimes I’d feel this annoying ache in my heart. It doesnt hurt, it just feels empty. At these times I would think of dying, scratch myself to stop the feeling and try my hobbies. They barely work for me. Its like anxiety but not exactly. But, it isnt persistent. I do get happy easily, id laugh at videos on tiktok etc. It’s like being so much in a day. This is so weird, sometimes i think im not okay, sometimes i think im too dramatic and just want attention its extremely confusing. Can someone give me a name for this

Hi @calmingmango4331,

Thank you for sharing so openly about what you’re experiencing. It sounds like you’ve been carrying these heavy and confusing feelings for quite some time. Sometimes feeling a deep emptiness or an ache in your heart that isn’t exactly pain, but more like a void. You’ve found yourself trying different ways to cope, like distracting yourself with hobbies or even resorting to self-scratching just to make the feeling stop, yet none of these truly seem to bring relief. It must be exhausting to ride such an emotional rollercoaster, especially when you can go from feeling down or anxious to genuinely laughing and enjoying moments in the same day. The unpredictability of it all, and not knowing when or why it will come, adds to that sense of confusion and frustration.

It’s very understandable to wonder what’s happening and even to question yourself, whether you’re genuinely struggling or just being dramatic. The truth is, what you’re describing is not uncommon, and many people with emotional pain or mood swings struggle to find clear explanations for their feelings. You’re not alone in this, and your experience is valid.

It takes courage to reach out and ask for a name for what you’re going through. While I can’t give you a diagnosis, your description shares similarities with symptoms of depression, anxiety, or even emotional dysregulation. It might help to talk with a mental health professional who can listen without judgment and help you make sense of these experiences. No matter how confusing or “weird” it feels, your feelings matter, and support is available.
