I started working for almost half a year. Initially i enjoy the learning process and shortly after probation, workload gets heavier and not much guidance was provided. I am struggling to complete my tasks on hand and everyone else in the team experience this too.
I felt that i am not coping that well as I am still making mistakes and sometimes i admit i ask dumb/obvious questions as i fear of making mistakes n get questioned
I do feel more restless since the past few weeks and think alot more about work even after working hours. This week was especially rough when i almost broke down at work
Am I leaning towards burnout or anxiety? I am considering if this job is suitable for me who overthinks alot ?
Hey @consistentcantaloupe2092,
Thank you for sharing your struggles at work on this platform. I hear that you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by the workload at your job and you have a fear of making mistakes. I also hear that recently, you’ve been thinking a lot more about work and almost broke down at work. That sounds tough, and it’s understandable you’ll feel this way. I’m sure no one wants to mess up at work too.
With regards to your question, I cannot say for sure if it’s burnout or anxiety, but it seems that you feel a lot of stress. Maybe you could try some ways to manage this stress, like journaling out your feelings or meeting a friend during weekends to hang out and talk it out? Maybe making plans to do something you want to do or eat during the weekends may help you unwind too. Would you be open to try them out?
Hope you feel better soon and know that we’re here for you if you need someone to talk to

Dear @consistentcantaloupe2092
Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you have been experiencing at work. Firstly well done for clearing your probation period. That is a good achievement and is an indication that you have met the requirements for the role. You enjoy learning too, which I think is a very laudable quality.
I note workload has recently increased and I believe you have been given more responsibilities as well. This is understandably stressful and due to lack of guidance and clear instructions, even more so.
Please know that it is good you are asking questions when in doubt, so please do not be too hard on yourself for asking. I see that you take pride in your work and want to do it correctly.
Moving forward, do consider compiling lists of work processes and engage your supervisor to go through with you to ensure clarity on what is expected from you and reduce systemic errors.
Meanwhile do also take steps to take care of yourself as suggested by @LitCandle1505.
Speaking to a counsellor may also be helpful. They provide a non judgmental safe space for you to process what you are going through and pick up practical coping skills you can use to reduce distress. You can also discover what work values are important for you as you figure out next career moves.
Take it one step at a time and know that you are not alone. Reach out whenever needed for support.
