Relapse of Anxiety

I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in 2023. I seek help, both fr counselling and medication. Responded very well to Lexapro and learnt a lot about anxiety.

Recently due to some stressful events, I had a relapse. Notice that this time it’s not as bad as before. I have improved in my way of handling it. Doc put me back on Lexapro, at the moment on a lower dosage. I find it so discouraging….I thot I was doing well.

Dear @user791922

Thank you for writing in to share your experience and it is fully understandable to feel discouraged. When symptoms return after you thought you were doing well, it can certainly feel like you’re back at the beginning.

However I think that you have made progress.

Firstly, you realised you were in relapse and sought help quickly. I have seen that recovery from anxiety is not linear and subject to waves, especially when we are stressed. The medication will help you to stabilise and I believe it’s a positive sign that your dosage is less.

Do be gentle with yourself and fall back on the anxiety reducing skills you learnt during counselling. You have already proven to yourself you have the resilience to go through this before so leverage on your strengths. I encourage you to steadily continue your recovery step by step. :yellow_heart:

Thank you. I will continue to work on it.
