Does anyone feel like they have been constantly doom scrolling and suffering from a social media addiction?
Its normal coz we are so reliant now
I only does that when i have nothing better to do. And yes…i can spend a few hrs scrolling and looking at different platform and just sleep when I got tired.
So…i guess you need something to help occupy your mind.
Still…sometimes its pretty educational to look at social media. As l tend to try to unstand the human behaviour or the poster and/or those posting comments.
Atleast…now I know how to detect a keyboard warrior or a mentally unsound minded person based on their post and/or comment patterns.
I don’t really doomscroll much these days because I keep myself busy with things I’m genuinely interested in. I used to get stuck in it, though, but I’ve learned to spot my triggers—like stress—and then stop myself, maybe by going to bed or doing something else.
One trick I picked up from someone is to make scrolling more productive by following educational accounts or academic journal publishers on X (Twitter), or watching learning content on TikTok.
A big turning point for me was realizing I was spending around 5 hours a day on my phone—that’s 5 out of 24 hours, almost a fifth of my entire day! When you think about it like that, it’s kind of crazy.
Reasons people get hooked on social media:
- Platforms are designed to be addictive—likes, comments, and notifications trigger dopamine hits that keep you coming back.
- It fills emotional needs like boredom, loneliness, or stress relief.
- Fear of missing out (FOMO) keeps people checking constantly.
- Habits and routines build up over time, making it automatic.
Ways to manage it better:
- Set time limits on apps or use your phone’s features to track and restrict usage.
- Replace scrolling with activities you enjoy or that help you relax.
- Identify your triggers (like stress or boredom) and have a plan for what to do instead.
- Follow purposeful or educational content rather than random feeds to make your time online more meaningful.
- Take regular digital detox breaks—like no-phone hours or even days.
Hope this helps! What other reasons do you think people get hooked on social media? And how else do you think it can be managed better?
