i have almost ten tattoos now (all hidden) and have some unique piercings apart from the usual lobes that people get. when i got the one on my nose my mom did threaten to disown me. she will probably actually disown me if she knows i have tattoos
the usual stigma is that you’re a delinquent, belong to a gang, it was impulsive, it was coerced etc.
when i got my nose piercing done i felt like that was extremely positive for my identity and have never felt so at home in my body. even now i feel like i like how it sits on my face
i’m just wondering what’s everyone’s experiences like with body modifications?
what kinds of reactions did you get from family/friends? any super adverse reactions? conversely, any reactions that were surprisingly positive?
i had earrings and it continues being painful cuz it was heavy. Like my attention is distracted by the feeling of it and it wakes me up if i accidentally pulled it in my sleep. stopped wearing them n I’m just happy without it. I wished to be fully tatted but i dont like how it kinda ‘poisons’ the blood or whatever it does that i read on the internet. Have to keep my body healthy to have a healthy mental health too so i dont indulge in these though they look cool n i want them
@user1138 hahaha getting tattoos is highkey therapeutic for me maybe that’s why i got so many in the span of a few years. it’s nice to be able to see some of me on myself
for my lobes i just sleep with studs so it doesn’t get caught on stuff. sometimes my long hair does get caught on it though
not someone with a lot of body modifications here, just a simple piercing on the ear, and not really by choice… want to get more but my ear gets infected super easily, even until now the current ones don’t feel fully healed and it’s been years as for tattoos, have thought of them before same concerns as you hahahah scared parents find out.
doesn’t really answer your question but wanted to share a bit on people i know that have tattoos! a lot of my colleagues, young and old, have multiple tattoos (mostly hidden, some on the upper arm/collarbone so depends on the top worn) and this is known among all of us and no one really cares haha, i also work in the civil service that people would usually expect will be strict on such things but no one bats an eye
hellooo @bubumi good to see you. so far my tattoos are all hidden except one and my mother is somehow convinced that it’s temporary and will fade. i wear a watch over it so it’s not that obvious.
i relate to piercings healing badly. idk why i feel like my body just doesn’t like them. my nose piercing was really troublesome to heal and now they still flare up from time to time… i think i’ve just come to accept it and i don’t make decisions on piercings easily because of that - though i want another one, a septum. heh.
good to see you too @coagulate ! hope you’re doing well!! oh wah i wish i can convince my parents of that also do you find it troublesome that you have to wear a watch regularly… or is that something you are used to?
regarding the piercings, ya mine flares up also whenever i wear earrings which is just sad the first time i pierced them it got so badly infected it was really painful (partly because i was young and didn’t care for them well) so the second time i was super careful with it but still didn’t heal properly :') i want more too especially on the soft bone parts of the ear but
hahaha im not doing well but thanks for asking tho, i hope you’re doing ok <3 @bubumi
i wear a fitness tracker and i use it mainly bc i want to track my heart rate and sleep so it’s a habit for me now - i only take it off when i shower!
out of the piercings on my ear, only ONE specific hole gets irritated perpetually and it’s so frustrating cause idk why?! like there’s no clear reason when the other similar piercings are all perfectly fine…
my tattoos thankfully though all healed beautifully. maybe cause i really take careful care of them LOL but so far… parents have no idea…
