Job search sucks in this market n my depression relasped this week after it being held back by me due to my routine that my past posts mentioned but looks like the barrier has been breached. Seems like having a social hobby n getting laid isnt enough to hold back the depression now since i am stuck in this phase. The part of marslows hiearchy where a oerson needs purpose and safety is there at all. Dont know where else to go, cant switch industry into tech due to the market n cant go back to old industry(design) since i assume that it is the one giving me mental health issues. Not even sure if i should stop this current pt studies since the job market is bad which makes it pointless to get the cert
Hey OP
I’m sorry to hear about your experience. I want to affirm your strength in your journey thus far. Perhaps you could consider seeking help from a job coach like e2i?
Regarding your depression, I hope you are seeking treatment for it?
Sending your courage and may a good job come by for you soon!
Hi,
I was retrenched and laid off once. Got fired before as well.
I have had experience reaching out to e2i coaches. Generally, what they would tell you is to reformat or alter your resume to suit the “market” preference. What generally for that type of role, what sort of skills employers looking for. They would also “guide” you on how to present well during interviews etc. Very informative but they don’t go in depth into the specific market you’re into. They usually just do an overview.
If you’re not into that sort of thing, and I personally also find the e2i coach didn’t help me land my job (did it on my own), try reaching out on Linkedin. Do a post to share that you’re looking out for this role and ask anyone to PM if they know of or have something suitable. If that’s too much, you can personally reach out to Linkedin networks or contacts that you may have. Even an ex colleague who can recommend you.
In my experience, I also broaden my scope by reaching out to recruiters and/or headhunters. Just say you’re looking for this role and if they don’t have anything suitable right now, have them file or keep your resume for when they do.
I personally don’t recommend leaving or stopping your pt studies. Employers generally more positive and curious to know what you recently studied. And it gives you a great “fallback” reason to say that you DID something “productive” to DEVELOP your current skills further despite not having employment currently, which reflects “well” about your attitude and mindset.
Also on a personal perspective, I think getting occupied in your pt studies I personally think is better for your mental health. I would imagine if you pause/stop your pt studies, you will have even more time and energy to wallow in your depression because 1) you don’t have anything to do 2) you haven’t found a job and you will fester in that negative thought. Navigate that energy into something you can do good for yourself and future.
Lastly, take a nice morning walk outside. Like morning before it gets crowded. When was the last time you met someone? To talk to? Take some time to recalibrate yourself. Find something you like to do, and do it. Enjoy it. We often take for granted the time we have until we get busy with work and etc to only realize if we had more time, we could do this and that. Then its too late.
Let me know how it goes. ![]()
hi there @user1138 ! it does sound like you’ve got a lot on your mind. it’s great that you’re finding ways to seek out support like ranting here! i’m def curious about why you said you vowed to quit the platform but that’s more a kpo thing haha
i struggled too trying to find a job and i actually didn’t land my first adult job through applying so i cant rly share my experience on that. but i do agree with @user4525 that putting yourself out there can really help. at least that’s how i eventually found my first role. i was sharing my poor experiences with some people i met and they helped recommend me. you mentioned that you were in design and trying to switch to tech which sounds like a cool mix. do you think creating a passion project page to feature your work and some examples of what you’re trying to do could be something to also motivate you?
as for the PT studies, i’m not very familiar with how recruiters look at applications but a personal take is that having an extra cert isn’t so bad compared to not having something to show. similar to what user4525 said, there’s for sure a win in being able to share your achievement of a new cert! studying PT while working FT isn’t the easiest but to me, that sounds like resilience and grit.
