Alternative Therapy - What else is there besides "Talk Therapy"?

Hey everyone!

So, let’s talk about alternative therapy—you know, things beyond just talking it out. Have you heard of art therapy? It’s amazing how just expressing yourself through colors, shapes, or even a simple doodle can sometimes show emotions we don’t even have words for. For example, drawing or painting can give you a space to explore what you’re feeling without saying anything out loud.

Another example of alternative therapy (besides talk therapy) is animal-assisted therapy, which is like a free pass to hang out with therapy animals like dogs, cats, and even horses. :dog::horse: It’s wild how being around animals can help reduce stress and lift your mood! They don’t judge, and they’re just there with you, which can feel really comforting. Plus, animals have this amazing way of grounding you and making you feel more present.

I’m curious—have any of you tried these types of therapy, or is there another alternative therapy that’s helped you or someone you know? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hi everyone!

Let’s dive into some more alternative therapies that can add a little extra something beyond traditional talk therapy. :seedling:

Have you ever tried music therapy? It’s more than just listening to your favorite playlist (though that helps too!). Music therapy involves creating, singing, moving, or listening to music in a way that can help you connect with emotions and release stress. Even if you’re not musically inclined, just letting yourself feel the beat, strum a guitar, or tap a drum can be super freeing. And music has this way of bringing up memories and emotions that we might not even realize are buried.

Another one I find fascinating is dance/movement therapy. This isn’t about being a good dancer—it’s about moving in ways that feel true to you. Movement therapy can help release tension, increase body awareness, and express emotions without having to find the “right” words. Sometimes, our bodies can tell stories we don’t even realize we’re holding on to. And there’s something powerful about just moving and releasing those feelings.

What about nature therapy or eco-therapy? This one’s all about reconnecting with the natural world. Whether it’s hiking, forest bathing, or just spending time in a garden, nature therapy can help reduce anxiety, improve your mood, and remind you of the big picture. Being outdoors offers this calming effect, almost like nature’s own form of grounding. :evergreen_tree::ocean:

Anyone tried one of these? Or maybe another alternative therapy that’s been helpful? I’d love to hear what works for you!

Does binge eating count as food therapy?

Tried forest bathing. It was nice, doing a mindfulness exercise in nature was really different compared to doing it in a classroom
