i havent been able to attend school due to anxiety. im really scared i cant catch up with academics and promote. im very stressed and also feeling depressed due to friendship issues, i also noticed my anxiety getting much worse, how can i cope?
Hi there attunedcherry1316, thank you for reaching out!
Firstly, missing school because of anxiety is not laziness or weakness. Your body and mind are genuinely overwhelmed, and anxiety can make even the thought of walking through a school gate feel impossible. That’s a real thing, and it’s okay to name it as such.
I can also understand the fear of falling behind and not being to keep up or promote. But academic catch-up is something that can be managed and planned for. The anxiety on the other hand might be tougher to tackle when its already at or nearing its max, it does not help that you are forcing yourself to study while being in such state.
The friendship issues on top of everything else must make school feel even more daunting, because it’s not just the work you’re dreading, it’s the whole environment.
Regarding your question on how to cope, a few things that might help.
- Is there a teacher or school counsellor who knows what’s been going on? They might be able to support through this difficult period on how to navigate school, friendship, and the anxiety that you are feeling.
- You can reach out to Mindline at 1771 to speak to a counsellor to help manage your anxiety or just have a listening ear.
Hi, I just read your post, and firstly, i’d like to thank you for finding strength within yourself to ask for help.
Secondly, i’d like to ask if you have anyone currently to talk about this right now? Perhaps a trusted adult? If there is, then it’d be great for you to talk to them and ask for advice for your friendship issues. About your academic worry, would there be any teacher you can talk too for after school help? Or any tutors that your parents can hired?
No at the moment sorry
I hear you, may I ask why? I want to better understand the situation to see how I can best support you.
Hi @user6200,
I understand that it was @attunedcherry1316 who had shared first about their struggles. Can I clarify whether these two accounts are run by the same person, so that I can respond accordingly?
Hey there, thanks for sharing. I’m really sorry you’re going through this. It sounds like you’re carrying so much right now. Anyone in this situation would feel overwhelmed.
Try not to think about catching up on everything at once. Focus on the next small step, whether that’s attending one lesson, emailing a teacher, or completing one piece of work. Small steps are still progress.
Most importantly, you don’t have to manage this alone. Since your anxiety is starting to affect your attendance and mood, I really encourage you to reach out to your school’s counselor or a trusted teacher. They can help you work through the anxiety and also discuss academic support so you don’t have to carry all of this by yourself.
Be gentle with yourself. You’re not falling behind because you’re not trying. You’ve been dealing with something that’s genuinely difficult. With the right support, things can get better, one step at a time:)
