How old were you when you started screen time?

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to hear your thoughts on this:

The Ministry of Health (MOH) in Singapore has recently updated its guidelines on screen use for children, emphasizing the importance of managing screen time to promote healthy development.

For children under 18 months, the MOH advises against any screen exposure, including background media like television. For those aged 18 months to six years, screen use should be limited to a maximum of one hour per day outside of educational purposes. Children aged seven to twelve are recommended to have less than two hours of recreational screen time daily, excluding school-related activities. Additionally, the guidelines discourage unrestricted access to mobile devices and social media for children.

Reflecting on these recommendations,

  • How did screen time feature in your own upbringing? At what age did you started having screen time?
  • What are your thoughts on the MOH’s updated guidelines, and how do you think they might influence children’s development today?

Hi everyone!

With MOH’s updated guidelines on screen use for children, many parents may find themselves reflecting on their own childhood experiences with screens.

For some, screen time was limited to weekend cartoons or occasional computer use. Others may have grown up with unrestricted access to television, video games, or early smartphones. Regardless of our experiences, technology has evolved rapidly, and today’s children are going through a vastly different digital landscape.

As we consider these guidelines, an important question arises: How do we balance screen time without creating an all-or-nothing approach?
