I am tired.

Hello. This is my first time on here and I apologise if I’m not meant to do this. Hi. I am a secondary school student. I don’t know why my life is like this. I do have a great life, my parents like me, I have friends, I have okayish academic stuff, I have a dog. I don’t know I’m just not very joyous. Every day when I wake up in the morning I just hate it. And I have to go to school where there are just exams and I’m so bad at everything and I’m going to fail. And everyone keeps saying “YOU ARE NOT GOING TO FAIL YOU ARE SMART” and i dont know im so sorry. um. It just causes me a lot of stress. I always feel really upset unless I get I DUNNO at least a1 but even then i dont even feel too good. i just dont feel anything. I don’t know. I am normal! I don’t really do self harm or try to kill myself. I have such a great life. I don’t know. I can’t bring myself to study, the only thing I do is like everything else. When my PLD shuts down I will just stare into space. I don’t want to think. It annoys me because I really didn’t sign up for this. I heard teen years are fun but how can they be fun if you hate who you are and are not allowed to do anything about it because society? I have little to no hope for the future. If I get to be an adult maybe I’ll get a house and have an ok job. I don’t know. I don’t know if this is normal. and i would like to know please im sorry

Hi @inclusivedove3946 thank you for sharing!

What you’re describing sounds really hard, and I want you to know that it makes complete sense that you’re struggling even though your life looks good on paper. Those two things can both be true at the same time. Having a loving family and friends doesn’t make the heaviness go away, and it doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to feel it.

The things you’re describing, waking up and dreading the day, feeling numb even when good things happen, not being able to make yourself do things, not wanting to think, feeling like you hate who you are these aren’t just normal teen stress and they’re worth taking seriously. You’re not being dramatic, and you’re not abnormal. But I do think what you’re feeling deserves more support than just pushing through.

I would like to encourage you to reach out to a trusted adult or your school counsellor to share about this so that they can journey this with you and render you the support. If you don’t find yourself ready to approach them directly, you may consider reaching out to Mindline @ 1771 or whatsapp to 6669 1771 to share more!

Hey @inclusivedove3946 . Thank you for opening up. It couldn’t have been easy to share this.

Although I can hear how overwhelmed and discouraged you feel, I also noticed some strengths in what you shared. You were able to describe your thought with a lot honesty and self-awareness, and you reached out even though you weren’t so sure whether you’re “meant” to post here. I think that’s very courageous of you.

You also seem to care deeply about doing well and about your future. While those hopes may feel buried beneath stress right now, they tell me there’s a part of you that still wants life to feel different.

It also sounds like you’ve been placing a great deal of pressure on yourself. Even when those around you reassure you that you’re capable, it can be very difficult to believe them when your own inner voice is so critical. Carrying those expectations every day sound exhausting.

May you be gentle with yourself as you navigate these difficult feelings and seasons of uncertainty, and may you remember that you don’t have to figure everything out all at once okie :sunflower:

Hey hey~ Firstly, you really don’t have to apologise for posting this. Happy to read your sharing.

I read through what you wrote, and one thing struck me quite strongly. You keep reminding us and maybe yourself that you have a “great life”. Your parents like you, you have friends, you’re doing okay academically, you DO have a great life =)

So I can understand why it feels confusing that you can have all these things and still wake up thinking, I really don’t want to do this again today.

Having good things in your life doesn’t automatically mean you must feel happy. And feeling unhappy doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful for what you have.

I also wonder whether part of what you’re experiencing is not simply about seeking happiness, but seeking purpose.

Happiness is often about how we feel at a particular moment. Purpose is more about having some sense of why what we’re doing matters to us.

And honestly, secondary school can sometimes make those two things very difficult to separate. Wake up. Go to school. Study. Exam. Get results. Repeat.

Somewhere along the way, it can start feeling as though the purpose of being a student is simply to produce better grades. Create goals! Start small, maybe in your CCA, or some club or society you may be in. Or, it can be a social goal, making new friends, or getting to know existing ones better.

This new curiousity might embark a new adventure for you. And maybe, things wont be as repetitive or routine for you anymore =)

thank you and sorry. uhh. meaning and purpose. my life is meaningless but i guess i could try to find a purpose, like how i would feel good if i were to do good things. um. im not very good at spirituality. i just think it would be good if i saw a reason to keep getting up every day and i will work on it. thank you. uh.

Tats a good start.

Do things that makes u happy that keeps you going. It DOESNT have to be something formal. For example, i find comfort in gaming and cooking. I find purpose in gaming (other than for fun) such as helping to carry the team being the supporting character. My main character aura not that strong. But as a medic, or sniper or a tank (gaming reference), i find purpose that made me happy.

Cooking is something essential for me. For self n family. But it gives me joy seeing ppl enjoy my creations. Then it led to another thing i enjoy now- grocery shopping.

Its not mainstream, nothing BIG like saving the day or the world, but it makes me happy.

I think its important to start. Then keep moving forward
