with how olevel is coming, im just so tired. Friendships are getting more tiring. i feel like withdrawing myself. life isnt getting better by the second, everything drains me and i just feel the need to keep this happy facade to everyone. I hv this friend who is just rude to me and says its cause she loves me. i dont think its love if i go into self defense the moment she shouts. i feel like im walking on constant eggshells. i dont know whats wrong with me. im so tired and drained. i dont know how to open up maybe its cause my feelings were always discarded. genuinely how much sorrow can i take
Hi @user1793,
Thanks for making the time to write in to us, especially with your O Levels coming up!
It’s normal to feel drained and overwhelmed during such a stressful time (trust me, we’ve all been there). School pressure in SG can be relentless, and when friendships become exhausting rather than supportive, it can definitely add to your burden. First of all, I wanna say that it’s okay to step back and prioritise your well-being, even if it means reassessing some of your friendships. Taking care of yourself comes first, and you have every right to seek out relationships that nourish you.
Based on how you described your friendship, it is tough when someone you care about doesn’t treat you with the kindness you deserve (especially when their behaviour is framed as “tough love”). True friendship should feel safe and nurturing, not like walking on eggshells. Any kind of behaviour that makes you feel small, belittled or humiliated is NOT okay (and I’m saying this for real, no cap). TBVH with you, if you feel that this friendship is hurting your well-being, then you have every right to step away from it.
It is understandable to doubt your worth when faced with dismissive attitudes or unkindness. And it is perfectly okay to want to share this burden with someone who will listen without judgment. I was wondering if you have been able to talk to a trusted adult, school counsellor, or family member about how overwhelmed you’re feeling? Having someone in your corner right now can make a huge difference. Take things one day at a time, and remember to prioritise yourself first! ![]()
