Im the problem its me

Hi there, my mind is getting out of hand. My work is causing me anxiety and i feel like im the problem. That im not good enough, not smart enough. I feel like ive hit a brickwall in life. I cant progress and i cant quit to find something else because the market is bad and i have bills to pay. My self esteem is low and everytime i think i messed up at work, im my worst critic. I am so exhausted with myseld but yet i feel like others have it harder but yet are taking things better than i am.

I think i need therapy but i dont know if it will truly help. Does anyone have free or affordable therapist/counsellor i can approach? Which shd i even go for - therapist or counsellor. Thanks.

hey @Lostsoul I hear you, I really do. What you’re feeling right now, the exhaustion is not because you’re not good enough. It’s because you’re overwhelmed and burnt out, and still showing up every day. That doesn’t make you weak, it’s how everyone is. You’re not alone in this. You are not the problem. As for therapy, yes, it can help. It’s not an instant fix, but it gives you space to breathe, to be seen, to unload all that weight you’ve been carrying. Please be kind to yourself. You’re doing way more than you give yourself credit for. You don’t have to carry this alone.

Hi @Lostsoul, thank you for reaching out. It does sound like there’s a lot of weight on your shoulders, and I want to assure you that your reasons for seeking help are valid.

With regards to affordable counselling, the Community Intervention Team (COMIT) provides free mental health services to anyone who needs it. You may contact your nearest COMIT through this link: SupportGoWhere

For all other mental health services, you may use mindline’s Service Wayfinder: https://www.mindline.sg/mental-health-service-providers/start

I hope this helps in getting the support you need! :+1:

Hey @lostsoul,

Your words carry so much weight and truth — I just want to acknowledge how tough this must be for you, walking around with all that pressure in your mind and still showing up, still trying.

Feeling like you’re stuck, like you’re not good enough or like you’re falling behind — that’s not weakness. That’s your body and mind telling you, “I’ve been trying so hard, and I need someone to hear me.” You’re not alone in this, even if it really feels like you’re the only one drowning while others swim.

I hear the exhaustion when you say, “I’m my worst critic” — that inner voice can be relentless, right? It tells you you’re failing even when you’re just surviving. Therapy or counselling can help not by fixing you (you’re not broken), but by giving you space to untangle that harsh voice and learn how to breathe again emotionally.

Since you’re open to seeking help — that’s a really strong and brave first step — you might want to check out some low-cost services like CHAT or even community counselling centres that offer sessions at subsidised rates. Whether you go for a therapist (who might also help with clinical tools for anxiety) or a counsellor (to talk through the emotional overwhelm), what matters most is that you’re not holding this alone anymore.

Sometimes just having one person really listen can make the weight a little lighter.

You don’t have to figure everything out now. You’ve already done something powerful — you reached out.

Hi @Lostsoul thank you for sharing how you’ve been feeling. It sounds so difficult to feel stuck. You’re trying your best to get by and be financially stable, but this voice of not being good enough sounds so loud and affecting your ability to do so.

With the right professional, therapy does help. It isn’t a magic pill though and doesn’t work overnight or with just one session. But with someone who is a good fit therapy is evidence-based and does help. The goal of therapy is to emotionally support while guiding on certain thought patterns and learning ways to cope.

Apart from the resource of COMIT shared, there are some other organisations like Clarity and Care Corner that you may consider.

Thank you for being so open, it takes real strength to do so.

It sounds like you’re under a lot of pressure, both from your work and your inner critic, and it’s weighing heavily on your mental and emotional well-being. You’re not alone in feeling this way, and what you’re going through is valid, even if others seem to be “coping better.” Struggles aren’t a competition and your pain matters.

It’s okay to not have all the answers right now, but reaching out is a huge and important first step. Both therapists and counsellors can help and you don’t have to decide that alone. Generally, counsellors offer support for specific issues or current stressors, while therapists (like clinical psychologists) may go deeper into underlying patterns and mental health conditions. Either can be a great starting point.

You deserve support, and things can get better with the right help. Just remember that you are not alone:)
