hello there! this is a little crazy but it’s funny i feel like i’m losing love in everything. i’ve achieved my dream of studying english literature in university & joining the theatre club & yet i feel empty. i used to be a huge study nerd & now i can barely focus on the things i used to love, especially my studies which are very important since i have a major test coming up soon & i really really can’t focus & it’s driving me a little crazy. i feel unfulfilled by everything i do & i always feel like there should be somewhere better than this. most of all i feel lonely, unrewarded by friendships, despite having friends & being able to speak to people relatively well. i don’t know what to do sometimes, since life moves so fast & it always feels like i can’t catch up, most of all it feels like i am losing love in everything. i feel like i am not doing enough compared to my peers to become a competent adult, yet i don’t know what i should be doing, how should i start, sometimes i don’t even feel like doing anything. i feel sad without knowing why. is there any thorough way i can cure myself?
thank you dearly & i hope you take care too fellow councillor!
Hi @anonymous10115 thank you for sharing!
What you’re describing from the loss of joy in things you used to love, to difficulty concentrating, feeling empty even when life looks good on paper, loneliness despite having people around, and having a kind of low-grade sadness without a clear cause, all these are real and significant experiences. And I would say they’re not just a phase or something to push through with willpower but rather something worth talking to a professional about if you have yet to do so, as those seems like a sign that something deeper is going on emotionally or psychologically!
You may reach out to your school counsellor (if there is one) to start off and hopefully it can bring you some clarity and directions. Alternatively, you may reach out to the following (assuming you are under 25YO):
But yeah, in the meantime for your upcoming test, it might help to be kind to yourself about your current capacity rather than fighting it… Planning a short yet timed study sessions (20–25 minutes) with real breaks can help better than forcing long stretches when your mind isn’t cooperating!
All in all, it sounds to me that you are a insightful and thoughful person. So please reach out to someone who can properly walk alongside you through this asap ok!!
