i feel like having friends would distract me from negative thoughts and fill my empty space of time so my mind doesn’t go wondering off and possibly help me get to a better place mentally. would anyone be open to be online friends? if our age are close possibly be friends out of this platform? would this be an okay thing to do on here? i’d rather much talk and get to know people rather than consume media that feeds my negativity. it’s the last thing i need.
hi @user6260,
It is great that you are looking for ways to improve your mental health and find positivity. Having friends to talk to and share experiences with can definitely help fill that empty space and keep negative thoughts at bay.
While it is wonderful to seek connections, it is important to ensure that any friendships formed online are safe and respectful. If you look at the community guidelines (Community Guidelines - let's talk), posts containing personal information will be moderated.
If you are looking for online friends, you might start by engaging more in discussions here, sharing your interests, and responding to others’ posts. Building connections gradually can lead to meaningful friendships.
Stay safe!
Sure. Message me, but no complaints about ur bf tho
hi @user6260, i too sometimes have negative thoughts and i try to keep myself occupied by filling up my daily schedule so that i don’t have time to harbour these thoughts. maybe you could try engaging in new activities or hobbies to fill up your time?
I think as mentioned above, posts with personal content will be moderated.
But there are very cool opportunities out there to make friends (and explore interests!) I have seen art collectives do open sessions where all are open, board game sessions as well.
What are some interests that you might have that have such opportunities?
Hello @user6260
I’m glad that you are trying to make friends. Indeed making and having friends can have a positive effect on our mental health (of course dependent on who we make friends too), friends who are supportive can help provide a safe space and support in coping with the negative thoughts and fill time.
However I would also like to encourage you to develop your own coping skills so that in a case where there might not be anyone around, you’ll still be able to cope. Do consider exploring ideas that might be suitable and helpful for you. Personally, for me, I enjoy playing games on my switch/ ipad, listening to music and if possible, I like to go out on a nice meal.
Going back on track, I believe as mentioned above as this is a safe anonymous space, that sharing revealing personal information is generally not allowed (will be moderated). However like @Rotovap said that you can still engage in more conversations and discussions here and even replying to other posts, who knows you might form a connection helping others.
Alternatively, I know of some online and even offline befriending services where you can make friends and chat with others online and/ or offline. Let me know if you are interested.
Take care!
