Police sent

So basically I contacted 1771 and I said the ‘wrong thing’ and they sent the police to my home. For background information, I’ve been through a lot of things and have contacted a lot of helpline, including ec2 which is a counselling service (14F). When the police came I was practically shaking and crying. Now,my grandparents and parents are asking me what happened. I don’t even speak to my dad because I witnessed him do something traumatizing. I’m also reserved in my family. Like, what should I do now to move from this incident?

Hi @optimisticrainbow9250,

Thank you for sharing this here. I can hear how incredibly stressful and overwhelming this entire experience has been for you. Having emergency services show up at your home is a deeply scary thing to go through, and it’s completely natural that you were shaking and crying.

Please know that reaching out to a helpline is never ‘wrong.’ Helplines only send emergency police assistance because they care deeply about making sure you are safe in a critical moment or a crisis situation.

Right now, since everything feels so raw and your family is asking questions, it’s okay to take things one slow step at a time. You don’t have to explain everything to everyone immediately if you don’t feel ready or safe doing so. It is perfectly fine to tell them something like “I was feeling very overwhelmed and panicked, and I just need some time to calm down right now.”

For now, focus on taking care of yourself first tonight. Take a few deep breaths, grab a glass of water, or try to rest in a space where you feel safe. Since you’ve mentioned using ec2’s services before, remember that those supportive spaces are still there for you whenever you feel ready to process what happened. We are here to listen to you, too. How are you holding up at this very moment?

The police refered me to IMH and the specialist there told my mum the story of my dad even though I begged her not to tell. I was pretty upset with it but my mum understands and won’t tell anyone else. The specialist is hooking me up with a therapist (FRIENDS). I’m still down and numb, especially with this midnight being my birthday haha. Thanks for listening to me and replying.

Hi @optimisticrainbow9250,

First, I want to wish you a Happy 14th Birthday. I know everything feels incredibly heavy and numb right now, and this is far from how anyone wants to spend their birthday, but please know that you matter and I’m so glad you’re here.

Based on what you shared, I can see why you felt upset and hurt that the specialist shared that information after you asked them not to. It is incredibly scary to have a deep secret revealed. Because you are 14 (and thus legally still a minor), specialists and doctors have a legal and professional duty to share important background context with parents to make sure you are fully safe and supported at home. Even though the psychiatrist did it out of a strict duty of care to protect you, it’s completely natural that it felt like a shock and a breach of your comfort zone in that moment.

The silver lining here is how beautifully your mum responded. The fact that she understands, supports you, and has promised to keep it between the two of you should be considered a win. Even though the information came out in a way you didn’t want, it has brought your mum into your corner as a safe ally. You don’t have to carry this heavy weight entirely by yourself anymore.

Feeling down and numb is a completely normal reaction to an emotional rollercoaster like this. Your mind and body are just exhausted from the stress. Please be incredibly gentle with yourself tonight. It’s great that you’re being connected with a therapist through the FRIENDS programme to help you process all of this at your own pace.

Take it one slow moment at a time today, and grab some rest if you can
