Hey everyone,
In today’s post on cognitive distortions, I’d like to cover the next one which is overgeneralisation.
This is where a person arrives at a general negative conclusion that goes far beyond based on one or a few events/evidence → sorta like making a rule from one experience:
“I’ll never have friends because no one talked to me”
“I had trouble at work, I’ll always be a failure”
Thus, ‘counter’ it by being objective and treating every incident as singular events; try to drop the words “Always/Never”:
“This has only happened once to me”
Look out for the next post then! And feel free to share any questions that you might have about cognitive distortions too!
