Hey everyone,
In today’s post on cognitive distortions, I’d like to cover the next one which is jumping to conclusion.
This is where a person arrives at a conclusion without the evidence or insisting despite being shown the evidence:
-
Mind Reading : assume others think negatively of us:
“He thinks that I don’t know anything about this project” -
Fortune Telling : predict bad things are going to happen to us:
“I’m going to fail my exams anyway, my parents will hate me…”
Thus, ‘counter’ it by pausing and consider that there might be a misrepresentation of facts; look for other more likely possibilities/outcomes.
Look out for the next post then! And feel free to share any questions that you might have about cognitive distortions too!
