What is a cognitive distortion? #3

Hey everyone,

In today’s post on cognitive distortions, I’d like to cover the next one which is filtering.

This is where a person magnifies one or more (isolated) negative details and filters out/ignores the positive/important details of a situation → not seeing the whole picture:

“I did a lousy job because I forgot to ask one question!”

Thus, ‘counter’ it by collecting ‘evidence’ or keeping track of the positives (e.g., make a list, writing it down in a gratitude journal):

“There were a lot of high ratings and just one low rating for my evaluation!”

Look out for the next post then! And feel free to share any questions that you might have about cognitive distortions too!
